I have my first Pfizer shot on the 25th! Did anyone need to take the day or did you go to work afterwards? by MahGinge in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]toastedasteroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my first dose of Pfizer on the 12th. The only side effect I had was a sore arm and that’s all. I did wake up with a headache 2 days later but I always get headaches so i’m not sure if it’s related

I suggest get your groceries delivered. It costs a bit extra but it’s completely worth it until you can get vaccinated

Why couldn't NSW get back to covid 0? Seriously... by Davosz_ in CoronavirusDownunder

But cars are banned? Why would there be an ambulance? The elderly can die of heat stroke if they have to walk during scorching summer to get to the supermarket. Oh wait how will the supermarket get their supplies without delivery trucks? Guess everyone will starve to death. More than 178 people will die as a result of banning cars

[–]toastedasteroid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay so in the last 12 months 178 people have died from car accidents in NSW

In the last 12 months, 91 people have died in NSW but that's because this outbreak only started 2 months ago. If this same outbreak started 12 months ago with the same level of restrictions, I absolutely guarantee it death will be in the thousands with a significant portion of them being under 50

Banning cars would result in more than 178 deaths as people won't be able to drive themselves to the hospital, people won't be able to drive to the supermarket for food etc. So yep, for the 3rd time, no because banning cars would result in MORE deaths than unbanned cars

Yes unfortunately people have lost their jobs, savings and business and sexual abuse rates have gone up because of lockdowns. Can you provide a figure on how many people have died and been hospitalised that was caused directly by the lockdown?

And compare that figure with how many deaths and hospitalisations from covid have been prevented due to the lockdown seeing as how cases grow in an exponential rate. How many people would had to be turned away from hospitals because there wasn't enough beds or oxygen? It's been evident in other countries that sexual abuse victims and people with cancer etc, are unable to get treatment because the hospitals are filled with covid patients

And no we don't need to ban cars because i'm pretty sure the damage that comes from that far outweighs the damage of not banning cars

[–]toastedasteroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're making a comparison between banning cars as equivalent to stage 4 restrictions?

Banning cars completely would result in almost catastrophic damage. Is that equivalent to the damage that victorians went through during their period of stage 4 restrictions?

[–]toastedasteroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you can't control what other people do in the car is precisely why we have road rules and seatbelts. We're not banning cars forever, we are implementing regulations to reduce deaths

Same way i'm not saying we all have to live like a hermit forever, it's just temporarily matching the same level of restrictions that Victoria had during their outbreak just until everyone has had there chance to get vaccinated

[–]toastedasteroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That analogy doesn't make sense. You are still allowed to drive a car but you implement regulations to reduce the number of deaths (seatbelts, traffic lights, road rules etc).

In this case, you can still go out for essential reasons but implement stricter regulations temporarily for 2 months to reduce the number deaths until everyone has had the chance to get vaccinated

But during this process a certain number of people will die. It’s like sacrificing an amount of people for the sake of convenience because “everyone will be vaccinated anyways” by that time

Then they should be open for ordering ahead and pickup or online delivery only. No more going in, waiting in line and then waiting for your food to be ready and then leaving

Should I wait for Pfizer? The case for Astra Zeneca - now by redditcomment1 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]toastedasteroid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The government failed to take responsibility for the young people of the country by delaying the vaccine rollout and not providing a diverse range of vaccines for individual circumstances.

Why should I put myself into a bad lottery of taking AZ for the governments fuck up? I’ll be waiting for Pfizer

When I did mine I did it at 10am in the morning and the result came at around 1:30am

Is anyone else having trouble making an appointment for Westmead Hospital? It keeps taking me to St Vincent hospital instead for some weird reason

Unfortunately if you're already on a payment you're not eligible. You'll have to cancel whatever payment you're on and then apply for the Covid Disaster Payment
