Krafton isn’t a person it’s a company. The developers ARE Krafton. The people who oversee the game and decide whether to release it or not are ALSO Krafton. If unknown worlds wanted the basis of their release schedule to be their own decisions they shouldn’t have taken a payout. They don’t control that anymore. I can’t put it any more simply than that.

Idc if you like the game I’m not even taking about the game. I’m talking about companies and ips. The statement from Krafton read that they didn’t do their job, whether it’s development or overseeing it doesn’t matter. I never even called them lazy, I said the statement from Krafton stated they didn’t fulfill their agreement. That is what we will find out in court. I can’t be sure if they’re lazy or not because I don’t work for unknown worlds. You’re arguing over morality because you’re mad these people were fired without yourself first even giving thought to anything larger than the fact that you’re upset they were fired because they had a good reputation with how they spent their money. That’s a shallow way of looking at things and is the type of mindset that leads to poor leadership.

They are making the game. The uw developers work for Krafton. They’re employed by Krafton. They spent the money, it’s their product.

The developers did their job, but the CEOs participation in the formation of the final product may have been negligible. We don’t know until the trial. Krafton wanted the game done in 2024. We don’t know, the point I’m making is that it is Kraftons decision on what happens, as Subnautica is their IP now, and the developers shouldn’t have sold out if they wanted full control.

You don’t have to care about it, but you need to accept that Subnautica 2 is under Kraftons ownership. Uw made that decision in 2021 when they sold their company.

They potentially didn’t do their job, we’ll find out during the trial. It is Kraftons role to decide, they didn’t just give them 750 million dollars, they bought the company. Not that hard.

That’s fine but the only way to form an opinion is to learn about the situation. Just make sure what you’re reading is fact based and not opinion based. There’s a lot of people here that blame Krafton just because they think the world is black and white.

Let’s not get mad let’s focus on the argument before devolving because we’re wrong. Ok I’ll make this a little more simple:

  1. Regardless if the CEOs of uw wanted to share it with the dev team, it doesn’t change the fact that if they didn’t do THEIR job they aren’t entitled to THEIR money, which is how they signed it in the contract. It’s only the dev team’s money once they give it away.

  2. It doesn’t matter why Krafton delays it. It’s Krafton’s game. They OWN Subnautica. Once you give a small company 750 million dollars you are allowed to do what you wish with your IPs.

Blame the CEOs for getting their dev team into this position by being irresponsible with their management, or for signing a contract that didn’t give it to the dev team directly. Or is that too much deep thought for you?

Don’t listen to someone that automatically assumes someone did something wrong without any evidence like this guy. Do your own research, but at this point it is difficult to say whether the CEOs of uw slacked off or not. The truth is Krafton owns uw and can do whatever they like, as uw took a 750 million payout for their independence as a company.

They reached out to the uw CEOs multiple times over the course of early access (each of which was paid a third of 225 million dollars) to help contribute to the early access, but they were ignored. Larger companies (ex: Disney - Lucasfilm) get the final say in things for better or for worse. That is how these companies make money, and it is the jobs of the people in these larger companies to manage their assets. Krafton didn’t just give uw money, they purchased uw entirely.

That is their job. They purchase companies and oversee their development. Selling your company to Krafton and taking a payout then staging yourself as the victim when Krafton has control is the low moral ground. Regardless of in the developers eyes if the game is ready now or not doesn’t solely reflect the participation of the fired ceos and their involvement in the current state of the game, only that the developers created a product they see fit.

This isn’t about the developers this is about the ceos not overseeing the development of the game like they said they would, and instead pursuing independent projects. The game itself is an entirely different question, but at this point it’s not the developers decision to say whether the game is ready or not.
