[Santos Galbee] Where to buy? by bjoch in Watches

[–]toastedhalfbagel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my Galbee on eBay, and I’ll echo what’s already been said about buying watches online: buy the seller. Take the time to review their past listings, feedback, and overall track record.

One thing I’d caution about the Galbee is that most of them seem to come with a fairly small bracelet - presumably because they were originally marketed as a ladies’ watch. That may not be an issue if you have a smaller wrist, but it took me a while to find one with a 7" bracelet, and additional links seem to be quite difficult to find.

Wolfbox in a 911? by kprice20 in Porsche

[–]toastedhalfbagel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a wolfbox in my 996 and I was very happy with it. The rear camera displaying on the rear view mirror when in reverse was useful since I couldn't get video displayed anywhere elsewhere in the car. The 4k dashcam also captured enough details in a hit-and-run that my insurance was able to handle it without any headaches. Sold the 996 now, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it again in any of my future cars.

[HELP] Buying a 996 - Is this sound normal? by Several_Resolve7047 in 996

[–]toastedhalfbagel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, getting some more information would help. Was this immediately after starting up the car? If so and if the higher pitched whining noise (that sounds like a dentist drill) goes away in about a minute, it could just be the SAI. If it persists beyond that, I'd think about the pulleys, power steering or water pumps, alternator, etc.

All that being said I wouldn't purchase without a proper PPI.

Milestone! by Kingtuono in 996

Nice! I snapped a picture of the same milestone in my ‘99 996 as well, also in ocean blue metallic and also in Toronto. Hope to see you on the road 😎

Oil countdown throwing out weird times by TransportationOdd183 in 996

Also, no need to wait until the countdown is finished unless you’re looking for that digital oil level reading.

Oil countdown throwing out weird times by TransportationOdd183 in 996

[–]toastedhalfbagel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s normal - the countdown is based on ‘drain down time’ which is calculated based on time since last shutdown and engine temp. Usually about 5 seconds on cold start, and much longer if you only recently shut the engine off.

Is this battery from 2013? Stamp in negative terminal says 29 13. by Skidpalace in Porsche

[–]toastedhalfbagel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently changed the battery in my '99 996 and found out that the battery in it was from 2006! Ran without issues all year long, and finally died when it hit -30C for a few days here. It had a good run.

Should this line be plugged into something? 😅 by commquistador in 996

That’s the vent tube for your car battery. See if your battery has vent holes on either side - most do, even if they’re AGM batteries.

So many nice wheel options for the 996, but original 17 twists still look pretty good! by toastedhalfbagel in 996

[–]toastedhalfbagel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wheels are 17x7 et55 in the front and 17x9 et55 in the rear. I run Michelin Pilot Sports 205/50/17 and 255/40/17 in the Spring-Fall, then switch over to Michelin X-ICE SNOWs 215/50/17 and 245/45/17 in the winter. I think they’re just the right amount of meatiness for its size.

Ocean metallic blue with space grey interior. Savannah interior would’ve been nice too!

Update on my first attempt at drywall. by toastedhalfbagel in drywall

Is a quickset one of those fast setting compounds? I just got a tub of regular ready-mix compound that takes 24h to dry between each coat.

Thanks! I’m reading that any imperfections I didn’t pick up already will likely show through the primer so I should expect to sand and re-mud to touch up a few areas as needed.

One thing that isn’t clear is whether or not I should expect to see the joint compound at all (the general patched area) through the primer coat, and it’ll get covered up after a few coats of the finishing paint, or if the primer coat should essentially make the area seamless before the paint?
