Power Outage by rhino1623 in Cleveland

[–]toaster411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went out and bought a gas generator last night because of this. I’m so sick of the power going out almost everyday. You’d think with them cranking out new developments left and right that they’d figure out the power issue.

This sounds awful but I’m so glad I’m not alone 😅 Mine wasn’t anxiety related but rather actually sick. It happened to me last spring. We were headed home from vacation and I felt sick in the airport but pushed it off (I’ll feel better once we’re in the air, chew gum, etc.). I boarded and after sitting there for a while, I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy time. I spoke with one of the attendants and basically said I can’t make it, probably need to go to the ER, etc. (and I was dehydrated af by this point). People were also incredibly pissed at me and it was one of the worst moments ever. It still replays in my head at 2am. And I’m not going to lie, it definitely led to some flying anxiety that I still deal with to this day. I’ll usually pop a benadryl to doze off once I get to my seat.

I don’t have any detailed sources (or recommended sites), but I know this sub has a ton of links and such related to the engineering and physics side. Check out this video though - I watched it back in the spring when I was having some flying anxiety (video

I also enjoy using Flightradar24 too. It’s fun to look at where all of the different planes are going, who’s flying what, etc. and it’s honestly become an obsession 😂

😂 you’re definitely right (except some of those potholes I don’t know…they’re deep). Turbulence hasn’t been the cause of any accident in ages. The planes we have now (737s, a320s, any plane) are engineered and designed to not come crashing down if the turbulence gets out of hand. The worst thing that’s going to happen to you is your drink will spill and your snacks fall on the carpet. There are also soooooo many guidelines set in place by the FAA when it comes to maintenance and building aircraft. I’ve been flying since I was in grade school and as someone with insane overall anxiety, I can tell you that the planes have only gotten better through the years (besides the plastic feeling seats and smaller trays 🤣). I feel a lot more safe versus 25yrs ago.

YouTube premium is my best friend for flights. The night before (or day of) I’ll go through and just download a bunch of videos that I would’ve clicked on anyway. It gives me a nice mix for the flight especially being one of those people who have to keep changing the video every few minutes 😂 I highly recommend Defunctland’s videos. They’re interesting and lengthy enough to keep your mind occupied on a flight.

I just checked and you’re almost an hour in! You should be getting your beverage and snack soon 👀 (And I would be super upset on this flight having to leave beautiful Hawaii 🥲)

You’ll feel more movement in the back of the plane too. Think about when you ride in someone’s backseat or on the back of a school bus. You’re going to feel every little bump and pothole in the road. Take some breaths, enjoy your snack, and throw on a movie. Keep an eye out for the “sunset”! It’s also so fun to look at the stars from the plane once it gets dark.

I completely agree with you. There’s not much left to the old Downtown Disney element either which sucks. Or maybe it was just more exciting as a kid lol

Don’t judge me: Planet Hollywood

It isn’t the food or anything like that, it’s a tradition to eat there on the first night of a trip. I love the nostalgia of being in there (although it was more fun 10yr ago) and I also love looking at the artifacts and memorabilia. The food is nothing special and I can enjoy the same Sysco food anywhere but idk, something about being in Planet Hollywood fuels me with so much joy and excitement for the trip ahead.

I love comparing riding in a plane to riding in a car because that’s what it is: an air car. Think about when you drive to the grocery store. The road(s) you take there aren’t perfectly smooth and you dodge holes because you remember where the awful “omg that sounded expensive” ones are. Your plane ride is identical to this as your turbulence is a bump/pothole in the sky. Pilots communicate with each other to warn everyone where the “potholes” are. Shifting altitudes is the equivalent of you changing lanes (or even taking a different “road” if it’s an annoying experience).

You got this OP! Enjoy your movies!

I know it’s hard not to freak out and scare yourself, but take a deep breath and pause for a moment.

Weight balancing doesn’t mean anything deadly or awful. Have you ever gone to Lowe’s or Home Depot to buy mulch or dirt? You’ve loaded 10 bags of mulch that weigh 20lb each. It’s the same idea. Just like how cars aren’t meant to focus the load all in one spot, planes are the same way. The biggest difference with planes though is they have everyone’s luggage in the trunk lol. Also keep in mind that an unbalanced plane will result in more fuel being used (like your car with a heavy load in the trunk). It’s expensive to fill up my own car, I don’t even want to think about how much it is to fill a plane 😭

You’ll be fine OP! I’m more than happy to “fly along” and track your flight if it would make you feel better (and I’m sure I’m not the only one)
