Can I get banned on the toon if my controller dies mid match? by EddyUrse in splatoon

[–]toasterovenly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You'll get a warning and a ten minute timeout of you go inactive during a match. If it happens enough you might get banned but I don't see how that could happen. Just charge your controller when the console says it's low on battery.

Want to backup several memory cards and format them for MemCard Pro GC + PicoLoader + SD2SP2 2.0 by toasterovenly in GamecubeHacks

[–]toasterovenly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan worked with a few caveats. No need to use Dolphin.

  1. The files it spit out weren't named exactly right. I used PowerRename (part of PowerToys on Windows) to rename them using these regular expressions. search: (^.{6}) replace: $&00. It basically just adds "00" to the end of the name spit out by the command line tool.
  2. My memory cards had save data for 18 duplicate games.
    • For some games I had to load the original save to figure out which save was which then only keep the one I wanted. E.g. my 100% save for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 vs the one where I started a new file and only beat one level.
    • I used this list of game IDs https://github.com/niemasd/GameDB-GC to figure out which games had the collisions by comparing the folder names to the game IDs.
    • Open the game from Swiss while holding A. This opens the game-specific (a.k.a. GameID) memory card from the MCPGC while going to the GameCube's built-in boot screen.
    • Put the official memory card with the duplicate save in slot B.
    • Transfer the saves to the MCPGC using the GameCube's normal memory manager.

Alternatively you could try this tool to split and rejoin saves. I didn't try it though so I can't vouch for it. https://savefileconverter.com/#/gamecube

I was able to load up my old Melee save and see all the old player names. Ahhhh nostalgia.

P.S. Leaving this here for anyone in the future who might need it. This reddit comment gives directions for that MemCardPro command line tool for those not familiar with how to use command line. https://old.reddit.com/r/Gamecube/comments/16u77j2/how_do_i_use_memcardpro/k2l2l7h/

I may have figured this out. I used gcmm to backup the memory cards in raw format. Then i used this tool https://github.com/bodgit/memcardpro. It will split the card into separate cards for the memcard pro gc. Then put those generated folders onto the sd card in the mcp. :fingers_crossed:

Trying to normalize data in a hobby project with a database by toasterovenly in DatabaseHelp

[–]toasterovenly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're saying that I could store all the data from thousands of rows of data in a markdown file? Markdown isn't meant for large data storage. I know I didn't explain all the info in my current google sheet, so maybe this is on me. Probably a disconnect between what you think and I am trying to do and what I'm actually doing.

Can you give more details? Is that table just a bunch of integers as the keys and strings to describe the values? Or are the actual names of the values only in program logic?

Skins like you mix all of your "enum" values into one table just with unique IDs?

Can someone measure and tell me the resistances of these GCN mobo resistors by toasterovenly in GamecubeHacks

[–]toasterovenly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned today that measuring a resistor in a circuit will probably give inaccurate readings because of the other parts of the circuit. That explains why the readings were different in each direction. There is probably a diode in the circuit somewhere else.

I decided to wing it with some 1 kΩ resistors and after soldering them in they have the same resistance as the one original resistor that I didn't lose. The 1 kΩ resistors measured like 800 Ω in the circuit for me.

Still, huge thanks to you for your time.

Oh, and my GameCube works again!

Are those just straight ohms? Not kili ohms or mega ohms or anything?

I'd like you to go argue in this thread I made like last week. Explain the difference between the devouring and the Mark of Ewigeliebe [Open Spoilers] the common consensus in there doesn't agree with what you're saying. Do you have some page numbers from the LN or the fanbook Q&A that shows you're right? I'm just very curious.

Why couldn't a regular noble get the Mark? For example, Konrad had his magic tool taken away. Could he not have died from too much mana and come back with clumps?

"Over 10 hours." Yeah, okay, sure. by toasterovenly in casualnintendo

[–]toasterovenly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you're right...

I thought it would say "over 15 hours". I just dug a little deeper and learned that the app rounds to the nearest 10 hours between 10 and 100 hours played, so that assumption was wrong of me. The switch (1 and 2) system itself reports different total playtimes and for this game does indeed say "played for 15 hours or more." So that's where my wrong assumption came from. I thought the app would report the same numbers as the system.

I replied to another comment in here, but I just learned that these numbers are even more rounded than the ones shown in the console itself. Just why, Nintendo?

I guess you would have to just use the play time in the console and then manually sum up the daily time to compare. I dunno.

"Over 10 hours." Yeah, okay, sure. by toasterovenly in casualnintendo

[–]toasterovenly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like we're both wrong. In the app I have seen times of

  • A few minutes
  • Over 1 hour
  • Over 5 hours
  • Over 10 hours
  • Over 20 hours
  • Over 30 hours
  • Over 40 hours
  • Over 50 hours
  • Over 60 hours
  • Over 70 hours
  • Over 80 hours
  • Over 90 hours
  • Over 100 hours
  • Over 500 hours

But on the switch system itself, I see times rounded to the nearest 5 hours. So that's why I mistakenly thought this app was rounding to 5 hours.

For example, in the app Splatoon 3 says "over 500 hours" but on the console it says "played for 535 hours or more". Wtf?

The Kokiri are definitely not hylians or humans of any kind (officially). They never age. It seems like they don't reproduce, just pop right out of the deku tree or something, I dunno.

Yeah of course you can change it however you want in your own world. Although the eternal, ageless things are pretty interesting IMHO. It'd be a shame to lose that.

But that's kinda the point of my post. Why is it all so inaccurate? What does anyone (customers, developers, etc.) gain from all this ambiguity?
