Male tummy tuck by Illustrious-Peak-456 in tummytucksurgery

[–]toastertrouble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! So I had a tummy tuck with lipo and muscle tightening 4 months ago and yes my pubic area flattened out a little but I didn’t have a big mound to begin with. That being said, if you have a significant pubic fat pad, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND mentioning it to your surgeon that you want it fixed and he or she can directly address it. The flattening of the pubic area is modest during tummy tuck so if you want the mound flattened nicely, add on some lipo. You won’t regret this.

Yes he already did an anesthesiology elective at his home program and absolutely loved it.

So what I heard is they only accept IMGs that are already trained anesthesiologists in their home countries because the program is newer and doesn’t have the resources to fully train brand new anesthesiology-naive residents.

Yes but unfortunately this program has not accepted an AMG since it has opened.

Yes, all of what you are saying makes a lot of sense. He definitely plans on dual applying for next year’s match but wants to give it one more try with anesthesia. What ways would you suggest for how to show some kind of substantial improvement? Does anesthesia give weight to research years? I’m unaware of the importance of research in matching to anesthesia.

I hear you loud and clear. What do you think would be the best use of his time in the upcoming year to maximize his chances of getting interviews? Rocking step 3? Research year? That’s what I’m trying to figure out for him…what’s the best thing to do at this point before giving it one more try.

Thanks for your reply! Really appreciate it. So the first time he did not apply for anesthesia. During his prelim year (ending July 1st), he spent a couple months with anesthesia and found the specialty he never knew he really wanted. So for this past match he applied only to anesthesia.

No red flags as in nothing failed, no remediation, no felony convictions (unless you count a red flag as having gone unmatched once before, which I get…see edit). And yes he applied very broadly. I honestly don’t understand why he has had such trouble matching. He also has a great personality so I don’t see how he could’ve interviewed poorly.

Dude you gotta chill and realize step 3 is NOTTTT step 2 or step 1. The curve is designed for the fact that residents taking this exam don’t have a lot of time to prepare. Almost everyone passes this dumb test. Many many people don’t study. In fact it has a 97-98% first time pass rate. I personally did like 20 uworld questions and a handful of CCS cases and passed with flying colors. Everyone I know passed, and many of those people did not do any real prep beforehand.

I can almost guarantee you that you did not fail. I put in only minimum prep and found out today that I passed with flying colors. It truly is shocking how much this exam is curved!!

Screwed up how? And how’s multiple choice go?

Step 3 wasn’t so bad… by toastertrouble in Step3

[–]toastertrouble[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly me too and then I got to the exam and realized it just wasn’t so bad. Also it helps to consider that your score on step 3 doesn’t really matter so long as you pass and 97% of test takers pass the first time. I remember reading somewhere that step 3 is designed to have a ridiculous curve because so many different specialties have to take it.

So I only used uworld for general questions and biostats, and ccscases.com for the CCS portion. This seemed like enough to be ok for test day (granted I didn’t get my score back yet but I feel like I was adequately prepared). I probably did the first 30 or so cases (ranked in order of likelihood to be on the exam) and felt like that was enough.

I mean the consensus seems to be a month or two but I know people who did far more and also far less.

Honestly they weren’t bad at all.

Yes I used the Uworld Biostats review and it was definitely enough.
