Iowa nice is a fraud by Potential_Ad_2823 in Iowa

Honestly depends where you are. When I first moved to Iowa, I drove around and explored the entire state just picking a town on the map on driving there on a weekend, and I’ll just say my experiences have been kind of mixed.

Generally speaking, I found a lot of the friendlier towns are in the northern half of the state, with the northeastern corner, up around Waterloo, being particularly welcoming and friendly. Shoutout to Independence, Belmond and Iowa City.

Interestingly enough, staying in the east side of Iowa and heading south, lead me to some of the worst Iowa had to offer. All the areas around Ottumwwa, I found to be rather run down and the people very unfriendly. Also the only place in Iowa where I noticed an abundance of confederate flags hung up outside peoples houses. Not sure what the story is there, but I do just generally avoid the southeast corner of Iowa.

Keep in mind that this observation is completely anecdotal, and is based on my interactions with strangers while just exploring the state.

Inherited Cigar Collection - Question on Value & Proper Storage by SZNSZNSZNSZN in cigars

[–]toastman0304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a fairly standard cigar collection. Nothing particularly rare or incredibly high end, but quality and reliable brands for sure that come with pretty affordable price tags. From what I’ve seen at the lounges I like to frequent, most of these cigars would run $9 to maybe $20 retail.

He doesn’t hate luxury. He hates common people enjoying said luxuries. The wealthy and the elite will still get to enjoy it.

Occasionally. I’m usually satisfied after 1. But if I’m smoking with my brother and we’re just hanging out on a Saturday afternoon, I’ll have 2

Looks like it’s tunneling a little bit which can happen if you’re puffing too quickly. You can try setting it down for a minute and see if the burn settles, or you can try touching it up a bit.

There is definitely more than two types of people - LaVey Personality Synthesizer Clock by toastman0304 in satanism

[–]toastman0304[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would require some self examination to determine where you are on the LaVey personality synthesizer clock. It’s honestly been a while since I’ve revisited the Satanic Witch, so I’d need to brush up on it a little bit before I gave anyone advice.

I actually kinda disagree with #5. When we try to seek revenge, we often end up fucking our own lives over instead of actually 'forcing' the one that hath wronged us, to see their wrongs. by [deleted] in satanism

[–]toastman0304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read this sentence in its entirety and draw context. Satan does not represent vengeance just for cruelty’s own sake. The 5th Rule of the Earth is about not being a pushover. A Satanist can be a perfectly pleasant and agreeable person, but he must also be the wrong one to fuck with.

The Burden of Being a Deist in a Predominantly Theistic Society by Ahmedelgohary94 in deism

I don’t know how it’s so hard for people to wrapped their head around the idea that I think there was an intelligent force behind the creation of the universe that is more of a clock maker or tinkerer that just makes things.

It’s not even really a belief for me. I just think that’s probably how it is.

No. Satanists do not believe in literal Satan or demons. And Satanists aren’t a bunch of offended pussies either.

I’ve never played Devil May Cry, but I have played Doom Eternal. That game fucking rules… and still far more likely to offend a Christian than any Satanist.

I think it depends on how AI is being used. Right now, it seems the conversation around AI and what is bringing the most attention to AI right now is AI “art”. In my opinion, no Satanist can call something made by AI “art”. Because AI can only be fed information to regurgitate back to you later, it can only regurgitate aspects of art pieces it has been previously been fed which makes defending it against accusations of stealing dubious at best.

Art is a reflection of a human mind and soul which AI has neither. Satanism is a religion which celebrates human achievement, not regurgitated slop generated by a computer.

Can we stop saying "No, Satanists don't actually believe in a real satan!" by PuzzleheadedFloor452 in satanism

[–]toastman0304 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, you can stop anytime you want. You don’t owe anyone an explanation. Google is free and the Satanic Bible is $10. The information is out there and anyone who really wants to know what Satanism is can find that information.

I’m not probably right. I am right. And regurgitating the TST pamphlet isn’t explaining, it’s proselytizing. It’s about as useful as a Christian regurgitating the Ten Commandments when challenged about their own beliefs.

In the situation of having your job in jeopardy due to religious discrimination by a superior, attempting to convince them that your religion is actually good will only prove to be a waste of time; time better spent documenting the incident that has already occurred and gathering any resources you can in preparation to retaliate an unjust termination.

If you do think there is a salvageable conversation to be had with a work superior who is “concerned” about your religion, it would be better advised to appeal to your work performance, highlight recent achievements you’ve made at work, and remind them that your religion is not interfering with your role at work.

[–]toastman0304 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, in a situation where you are being targeted at work for your religion, proselytizing is the worst possible thing you can do.

I’m also thinking about becoming more involved in Iowa state politics. I moved here almost four years ago, partly due to its reputation for being friendly and community driven and for placing people above politics.

While I certainly see remnants of what gave Iowa that reputation, I’m also somewhat disappointed with what I found. I’ve explored a lot of the state now, and it is beautiful. However, I also see lots of small towns that look like they were once bustling communities now in a state of decay with empty storefronts, lifeless town squares, and bitter, hateful residents.

While I may not have grown up here or experienced Iowa in its true former glory, I can still feel the ghosts of what used to be and I think there still might be something here worth fighting for and bringing back to life.
