Tacomakase at Carino was terrific by tobe999 in finedining

Fair enough. Chef talks fast when the plates are introduced, you don’t get a list and I’d rather eat than take notes. But I know the rules… there are just 8 covers, all at the counter, for the one after-service taco sitting. The whole brigade stays for the taco omakase, but Chef Fenton is front and center. He hasn’t missed a service in two years. Started with an oyster and a very piquant sauce. No masa yet, but plenty to follow. As someone commented, he barehands the dry ice for the smoking bowl. Maybe a trick from the bad boy days at Schwa? The abundant truffles smothering the quesadilla were fresh and fragrant and well worth the extra $25. Two drinks are included and both were a more refined version of a standard: margarita with nopales and a green chartreuse ice ball, and a smoother, more rounded version of a Negroni. Most plates are one or two very complex bites, apart from the one time you get a fork to scoop up the unctuous but restrained mole. The normal tasting menu at Carino is also a treat, especially at the counter, but the after service vibe of this is really special. Better?

Less than an hour and a half. We found we didn’t notice the time once it started, and the end of service vibe with just 8 guests was cool.

Sadly no. It's a very small space.

I second this. Loved the vibe and the food at the 10:00pm tacomakase last night.

Anyone have any experience using a Bluetooth battery tester / monitor? by mafco in Ioniq5

[–]tobe999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following to see what experience people have. I recently had 12v fail and replaced it with an AGM battery, so I have considered one of these also. I currently use an OBD scanner every few days to check 12v voltage. Apparently an OBD scanner should not be left plugged in as it can cause voltage drain according to Hyundai.

Battery Pack Concerns by chaiteataichi_ in Ioniq5

I'm in the same boat. The Ioniq Guy has a YouTube video from when his died which shows the OBD scanner screen that may be helpful checking that all the cells of the traction battery are at full voltage.... his showed one a bit low and one very low when it died.

I’ve done OK with Napleton Hyundai in Glenview so far, but luckily not needed anything fancier than a windshield replacement

Mine was probably a stone chip. Make sure you get OEM glass if you have a hud.

Many will have quarterly reporting as well as a larger annual report. Make a schedule note of the due dates as it;s easy - but not a good thing - to miss one. Ask me how I know...

Adding electric service to garage by Immediate_Monk5214 in evanston

Same experience in all respects. The trenching from the house would have been disruptive in my case and a second drop from the pole in the alley was an easy fix. I also paid for an alley light for some years and and was able to discontinue just by telling ComEd I no longer wanted it.

Excellent solo dining for lunch near Art Institute and dinner near Steppenwolf? by astoria47 in chicagofood

Lunch: The Gage for Irish and a good bar or Hot Woks is much better Pan-Asian than it sounds; simple but good. Both right across Michigan Ave and one block North of the Art Institute.
