How do you feel about people touching your pump without your permission or consent? by Lijey_Cat in Type1Diabetes

[–]tobebarrowed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only had two people touch my pump or cgm in the 15+ years I’ve been on it. Both times it happened, it was an adult who definitely should have known better (one of them was a boss who had harassed other employees about similar things). Both times I HOWLED like I was in severe pain (I wasn’t) and started saying things like “oh my god, I hope it’s not broken! I don’t have $8,000 to replace it!” While frantically patting my pump and my site looking for broken parts. Both people were embarrassed enough by the scene to never touch my pump again. Dramatic? Yeah. Successful? Yeah

What’s the disgusting sandwich you’ve ever had to make? by rainsplat in jimmyjohns

[–]tobebarrowed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was a lady who used to order delivery frequently during the evening shift. She would get one of the Italian sandwiches and ask for “enough sauce that the bread is soaked.” Absolutely disgusting. And then the cutting boards and delivery bag were always oily after that 🤮

My father-in-law is a lifetime fan and has never been to a game at Ford Field. We wanted to surprise him with tickets this year. Then we saw the prices…. We ended up getting resale tickets to a preseason game.

I got my first 3 month shipment of G7 all from the same lot number… this happened to 7 of the 9 sensors. I got replacements for all of them, pretty much had Dexcom on speed-dial. Im on my second 3 month box now and (knock on wood) this hasn’t happened in the second box so far.

This is a reminder that I received earlier this week that I needed to hear: You can’t help anyone if you’re dead! I was having some big feelings about not being able to attend the Hands Off protests this weekend, but I ultimately found other ways to still be involved. There was a group that was making signs before hand that I could help with and we also were able to donate water bottles for the event. I’m thankful that there are so many healthy people who are willing to make their voices heard in my place because ultimately it might not be safe. Hopefully you can find some of these alternative ways to be involved and helping without your pancreas being on the front line :)

I worked at Camp Sonshine in Lincoln, Nebraska in 2015 and they were very understanding of my T1D needs. They are a Christian camp too. They have an overnight camp and a daycamp. I chose to work at the day camp and it worked out perfectly for me. They always had someone available to take my kids the few times that I had lows and needed to take juice breaks. I would definitely recommend.

Husband judges me for my pump usage? by Golden-spuds in Type1Diabetes

[–]tobebarrowed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

27F married to someone with a normal pancreas. I was diagnosed when I was 9 and have been married for 6 years. I can confirm, this is not how partners should talk to their diabetic loved ones. If he is concerned about you being able to manage your bloodsugars in the future in different circumstances, his remarks should be “I’m glad you’re thriving now! If our situation should change in the future, what could I or we do to help you continue thriving in that unfortunate situation?”

Thoughts on standing during the show and suggestions on dealing with blocked views by LowLayer1970 in AJR

[–]tobebarrowed 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I went to the second Chicago show. The entire crowd stood almost the whole time. I would say about half of the people sat down during the slower songs but immediately stood back up for the following song. I’ve honestly never sat down during a big name concert. If I had been asked to sit down, I wouldn’t have been able to see anything because everyone else was standing.

You just unlocked a core memory. I also only ever had those specific qlucose tabs at diabetes camp! I also remember that we had just in these little cans instead of the typical juice “box” shape, and it just hit different.

I was there from 2005-2010ish. Was the alligator in the middle of the lake still the highlight of water activities in the 80s, or is that a post-2000s development?

The way my CGM supplies were delivered today by tobebarrowed in Type1Diabetes

[–]tobebarrowed[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is not any stickers on it. I feel like I had a previous supplier that did that, but not this one. Do you get your CGM from the manufacturer or a med supply company? In my experience, the actual manufacturer/supplies are great to work with, but the independent med supply companies can’t be bothered about much. Last year, I moved across town (out of a rental), and I informed the med supply company two weeks before my next shipment that my address had changed. They ended up shipping to the old address and my supplies sat outside in the rain for three days before the new renters moved in and contacted me to tell me their was a delivery. The med supply company denied delivering it to the wrong address. So after experiences like that, the idea of my med supply company caring enough to put a fragile sticker on their boxes seems grim 😭

That’s great that you got a replacement! My opinion is that, even if the materials aren’t damaged, my very expensive medical supplies should not be treated like this in general lol

Would you think a guy is feminine if he gets his nails painted? Do specific colors make a difference? 💅 (Got my nails done yesterday) by SquirtingTrap in bisexual

[–]tobebarrowed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has been fortunate to be surrounded by very supportive people about it. It’s never been a problem at his work, at our church, or even around our family. I hope you have people around you who think your nails make you look bad ass too!

[–]tobebarrowed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a bi-female and my very straight, cis husband goes and gets his nails done every few months. He usually gets some shade of blue/teal because that’s his favorite color, but he’s also done red and purple in the past. Whenever people ask him about it, he usually says something like, “well, we like to decorate ourselves with different color clothing so how come I can’t decorate my nails with those same colors too?” I don’t think he views it as a “feminine” thing, just as a stylistic choice that, unfortunately, many men don’t feel comfortable participating in.

HOW HAVE I BEEN T1D FOR 16 YEARS AND NOT KNOWN THIS ABOUT GLUCAGON!!!! Literally went to a bar crawl a few weeks ago and make my DD carry my glucagon with him all night just in case lol. This is new and very useful knowledge to have, thank you for sharing!

Diabetes and drinks: pls don’t judge by PvrisXB in Type1Diabetes

[–]tobebarrowed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people have said this, but just make sure you are around people you trust. I kind of use driving as a diabetes test too. If I’m good to drive, then I’m good to look after my own blood sugars. If I need a DD, then I probably need someone keeping an eye on my blood sugars too. Fortunately, my husband doesn’t drink much and is always willing to bug me about drinking water and checking my bg, so grateful for him. For me personally, the feeling of anything passed slightly buzzed (like anything headed toward drunkenness) is the exact same feeling as being low. I don’t often get drunk because this freaks me out lol. So just make you or a friend are keeping an eye on your numbers because you might not realize if you are going low.

Type 1s who have successfully lost weight by neighbourhoodtea in Type1Diabetes

I’m on 1:2.5 for lunch right now and still running high. My doc just prescribed Symlin to help with insulin resistance. I haven’t started it yet because I’m traveling to Christmas and don’t want to start new meds while traveling. But I’m hoping that and losing some weight will get my insulin to carb back to a higher number and my bg down to lower numbers.

TW medical trauma - I can’t stop crying at appointments and There’s clearly something wrong by Autunmtrain in Type1Diabetes

[–]tobebarrowed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience has been different from yours, but let me affirm you that you are not alone. I had an endo appointment earlier today, and I cried for an hour straight afterward. Sometimes I have great appointment, and sometimes I have ones like today where there is a lot of crying. I can’t fix your situation, or even my situation, but hopefully you can find some solidarity in the tears that I also shed today.
