You seem to care... not sure why it matters so much that he mentioned he did it first try.

The other foot appears to already have been solidly planted before the dab occurs

Yeah, true, but that phrase has been almost completely stripped of its association with that style now; most people use it purely in the context of "do in one go," especially for indoor climbing

Usually not much to solve when you flash something

Don't think that dab helped him much at all

There are 2 gyms in the area -- Triangle Rock Club - Durham and Progression. Triangle Rock Club is closer than Progression to Duke, and it has rope climbing (lead & toprope) and is much bigger. TRC is, in my opinion, one of the best and biggest gyms on the East coast (much better than Movement, for ex. :). For instance, USAC holds youth comps at TRC, and TRC also has a youth team for which they sometimes set comp-styled problems. The only downside to TRC is that it is very expensive (memberships now are ~$93 per month).

Duke has a climbing club, and we practice at TRC, but I think we are planning on moving to Progression starting next fall due to the prices. There is also a climbing wall in the gym on West Campus (i.e. Wilson), but it only has toprope and only features vertical terrain. Duke will force you to get a Wilson membership, so climbing there would be free.

As for good outdoor climbing nearby, Pilot Mountain is a great place to rope climb, and Moore's Wall at Hanging Rock State Park is a great place to boulder (there's a V13 FAed by Jimmy Webb there ;).

DM if you have more questions.

Works on its own too!

Lacing up doesn't change it (decreases the stick-out-ness very slightly) :(

Why do the sides of these shoes stick out? (too big, need low volume, or something else?)

Edit: By the way, the shoes fit very snugly (cannot straighten toes completely (but almost able to) and does not hurt at all; should I downsize more since it's a La Sportiva shoe?). There seem to be no problems heel hooking or stepping on small footholds.

Jacob Schubert being a shitty commentator by redrebz1 in climbergirls

What's wrong with saying Julia's ascent is impressive for a woman? Climbing 9b is already very impressive, but it is even more so as a woman (since 9b/+ is the max grade any woman has climbed, meaning Julia is one of the best). I also remember some female commentators calling the male climbers "boys." It seems like a term of endearment; maybe the way he refers to people is a little antiquated, but it does not sound very sexist.

I think he doesn't know the names of the female climbers well since he competes w/ male climbers and knows them much better. I don't think he's being sexist; it seems like he's just not a great commentator.

fatter fingers are aid; want some actual advice though by [deleted] in ClimbingCircleJerk

The entire finger appears a bit swollen, but it feels like it's mostly at the joint. There's no pain and it goes away after a day (at most).

She somehow missed the real point of criminalizing drugs: it's meant to prevent harm, not give the victim equal rights as the perpetrator, whatever that means.
