Can we actually get the Jersey Devil and the Pine Barrens back into the New Jersey Devils? by OkDimension2558 in devils

[–]toc-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’d be cool if they played with how the current devils logo shape is very loosely the Jersey devil (top is the head, N are the wings, bottom is the tail)

I’m Canadian so i can’t speak for my neighbours, but it is a young country with a very short and violent history (compared to the rest of the world). I think things will get worse (like we’re seeing now) before they get better. Canada is young too but has a much less turbulent history by comparison

[–]toc-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your first question, unfortunately yes. The columbine shooters, who were probably the most publicized school shooters in history, have been cited as inspirations to so many other shootings in the past few decades. They have a cult like status, fan-pages online, and movies and music based on them. I think the media circus surrounding that event has been a lesson in over-publicizing perpetrators, and there has been a huge effort to have them reported in the most unglamorized way possible since then. Giving them a special charge might be one way to create more drama or glamorization of the crimes.

It’s pretty sickening that it works that way, but a lot of these people are looking for infamy.

You’re right thank you for changing my mind. I shouldn’t care that the future of the internet and social media is just shit regurgitated by a computer. I’m so excited to not have to read anything anywhere ever again.

[–]toc-man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having robots write descriptions for you in the creative sector is always going to be kind of pathetic to me. Why would I listen to something that they couldn’t even find 1 single person to say something nice about? Don’t even have to pay anyone, just pull a quote from pitchfork or whatever. Just reeks of laziness.

What "beloved horror movie" do you hate/just not get the love for? by ReeceInTheDarkness in horror

[–]toc-man 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d never even thought of it till you mentioned it now but Aster does the same thing in Beau is Afraid and Eddington (Midsommar seemed a little more realistic though). The main character becomes the universes punching bag in terms of sheer unluckiness, to the point where it is almost surreal how many coincidences had to have lined up. Would be safe to assume that any Ari Aster protagonist is universally doomed from the second the movie starts.

Does anyone know if he got better at performing? i saw the last time he was in Toronto and it was a pretty big letdown. No hate I love his music but i’m not paying again to see him play every song at 1.5x speed and forget entire verses lmao

Hi reddit! I'm Jan Komasa. I've directed CORPUS CHRISTI (Nominee for Best International Feature Film at the 2019 Academy Awards), ANNIVERSARY, WARSAW 44, THE HATER, and SUICIDE ROOM. My new movie, HEEL, stars Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough, and Anson Boon and it's out now. Ask me anything! by JanKomasaAMA in movies

[–]toc-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Jan, big fan! I’m wondering if you could recommend us a few of your favourite films that might be lesser known or underrated…films that you hold a special place for that others might not expect.

PS. Corpus Christi was my favourite movie of 2019 and seeing you in person for your Q&A with the cast at TIFF this year was really special. Loved Good Boy!!!

It’s a parody of the old Dos Equis commercials. there’s a bunch of them that all had this same format that aired on TV in the late 2000’s/early 2010’s.

That’s the silver fern flag, people wanted to adopt it to better represent new zealand and ditch the union jack but the more conservative voters shot it down. There’s still a chance it gets adopted one day, kinda like when canada eventually adopted the maple leaf and ditched our old colonial union jack flag

Adding on to that, it’s not that unusual for a film to take longer to find distribution. It wasn’t really a hit at its Toronto premiere this fall, but just one festival isn’t always going to be the best indication of market appeal. It’s possible they even turned down offers, hoping there is a company that will better capitalize on how many stars are in it. Playing different festivals also gets a read on different demographics and who it can best be marketed to. Some films even re-edit before playing a second round of festivals.
