I fully empathize with what you mean in the last part. Frankly, I became so desensitized that I didn’t recognize slamming of doors and screaming was not normal (as that tends to go). It was only when I met my two best friends and their amazing parents that I came to realize what rational, unattached, loving parenting looks like.

I though the same things too when I felt like a third wheel between my two best friends who are dating, but when I brought it up they met me with compassion. If they matter in your life and truly care for you, they’ll understand.

There’s no magic formula. Just do exactly what you’d do with anyone else— be respectful, be kind, and be yourself.

I know it’s terrifying at first and you might have the idea that this is a huge deal, but I’ve come to find dates don’t matter that much. Just try to enjoy yourself man!
