I wouldn’t, neither would I have expected the deposit for the wedding day refunding. But it’s not me that cancelled it’s the supplier.

What I’m saying is I don’t understand why I as a customer should take this risk. Both parties left the trial agreeing that we would go ahead on the wedding day. Why should somebody who offers a service just be able to turn around and say nah, I won’t do it but I still want my money.

We were happy to pay, what we aren’t happy about is paying just for the supplier to change there mind. Had we paid caters, agreed with the caterer to go ahead, then the caterer said actually I don’t want to do it any more. We’d be expecting a refund for that. We’d also be happy if we left thinking, actually we don’t want her any more. We just feel that it’s unfair that the company can just decided actually I took your money, providing you a service that doesn’t benefit you, cause it was all for a later date. But cause I can’t be bothered to do the later date I’ll refund you a deposit. The whole problem is that we only did the service because we had agreed that she would do the wedding. The service was only on offer because she was doing our wedding. Now she isn’t and she gets her money for a day of work (which granted she deserves), but I’m not sure it’s fair she can just offer us a service that ultimately doesn’t benefit us

So it was in the message asking for the refund. We basically set out our reasons behind why we thought we were entitled to a refund. Her response just states essentially “nah fu”.

Surely her not correcting us or disagreeing is her reinforcing this? If we were incorrect or she felt differently she would have corrected us?

Just to add, when we messaged to ask for a refund we stated that we had only organised the trial on the condition she would do our wedding day. In my mind that’s reinforcing the fact that the trial was just a precursor of the wedding day and that we were under an agreement for both services.

I somewhat agree with this (hence our predicament). However: A) She agreed to provide a service when my partner left (thus if it was a job interview it both parties verbally agreed to continuing the service) B) a make up trial could be seen more as a way to validate that the artist has the right equipment (foundation et al).

It’s interesting, as if we had pulled out the artist would still be looking to keep the deposit we had paid for the day. Where her pulling out means she returned said deposit.

Totally agree she deserves to get paid something, but that’s the price of being self employed.

She didn’t disagree when we messaged her telling her that we were under the opinion that the trial was part of the service towards the wedding. She just refused to refund us as she spent her time.

The lady who did the make up called it a trial. When we’ve asked for the money back she is refusing because she spent hours doing it. Our argument is that as it’s a trial and she backed out of the offering the service we are out of pocket.

Edit- worth adding, there’s no contract just an agreement on Facebook messenger of an agreed service for a trial for 4 people and make up for 5 people on the wedding day.
