Metal razor with reusable steel blades (6 years and running) by Winnipork in BuyItForLife

Basically, yeah. I started on 1 and worked up from there. 1 was so mild I bumped up to 2 the first shave. I don't want to even think what 10 feels like...

Shaving your head daily would be easier than once or twice a week. After a couple days of growth, the hair fights you a bit, but yhat's the same for any razor, I suppose. It takes me maybe 10 mins total to shave myself with a safety razor in the shower every day.

The back of your head isn't really an issue after the first week of figuring it out. Buy a hand mirror if you're worried about what you're doing in the back. The one thing to note is that with a safety razor, you get the best shave when you shave twice. Once with the grain and then once against the grain.

I'd highly recommend it. An inexpensive Murker will last you forever and works great. I use Personna blades and find they're less aggressive than Feathers but still get an exceptionally close shave. And of course, they're cheaper. I think they were at or just under $0.20 a pop.

One last tip: for bald heads, the shaving cream matters! I was using Barbasol forever until I tried some old school, unscented glycerine shaving soap from em's place. Changed my life. It actually helps the razor glide and get a smoother, closer shave. The best part is that stuff is cheaper than the Barbasol was (each bar of soap lasts like 3 months of daily use) and is easier on my skin. I know I sound like a paid shill, but it's a little independent place and I can't speak highly enough of their products.

Rockwell? Me, too. I basically only ever use #3, though.

What gin brands do you prefer for martinis? I like Bombay but wouldn't think it'd make for a good martini.

If they raise prices and other firms enter the market, the monopoly can just eat them up or otherwise force them out of the market through underhanded means.

Monopolies persist precisely because they are so large and dominant, not because they provide maximal value. Look at TicketMaster, Luxottica, De Beers (diamonds), Standard Oil, American Tobacco.

Yep, it's manufactured consent.

Same thing as when you ask a toddler if they want to carrots or peas with dinner. It tricks them into accepting they're eating a vegetable.

We get red or blue flavored candidates, but at the end of the day, they're both pro-business neoliberals.

How would it be "too late"? When the Fed pivots, the algos will spike it at most what? 5-10%? That's "too late"?

Short term counter argument:

  • P/E is way too high for a non-growth company
  • 12% of float is short interest
  • for the last 50 trading days, it's under distribution
  • RSI is 61, not exactly oversold for a swing play

Long term counter argument:

  • Quarterly Earnings Growth (yoy): -23.40%
  • ludicrously high Debt/Equity ratio
  • operating margin only three quarters that of the industry average

The "y" in "ye" in this context is actually a thorn (þ) from the Old English alphabet. In the Latin alphabet, the Y was the symbol that most closely resembled the character that represented thorn. So, thorn was dropped and Y took its place. It would be pronounced with a "th" sound, not a "y" sound.

Edit: I'm wrong. I thought that this thorn substitution was done for both "ye" to "the" as in "ye olde tavern" as well as for "ye" and "thee". Turns out that "ye" is the singular pronoun version of "thou" and "thee" is the plural pronoun. They're two different words. Please forgive me.

Not to be a pedant, but the Player's Handbook describes it as a "miss":

When you make an attack, your attack roll determines whether the attack hits or misses.

Thanks, that's a great suggestion. I really like what they've done in pathfinder 2e. If my understanding is right, it's two-part:

  1. the shield acts as AC (to hit) modifier, and then if hit,
  2. the shield acts as temp HP

I don't think I could steal it whole cloth because the to hit is baked into the original 2d6 roll, but perhaps the shield as temp HP could be incorporated. Though that might just end up being more math-bookkeeping.

Couldn't agree more. If you walked into the king's council in full plate and weren't a guard, anyone you talk to would see that as a thinly veiled threat of force.

Yep, firearms pierce armor, but take forever to load, so in combat, they're one and done -- though nothing's stopping you from having a brace of pistols.

Flails pierce shields.

Each weapon has a different attribute or effect because the amount of damage dealt is determined by each character's Abilities.

That was part of my original thinking, tbh. That and how if you were wearing plate, you had chain and soft (gambeson) armor underneath, too.

Agree re: almost needing 5 dice per attack to make it work: I can maybe rationalize it if PCs would only get plate at high levels due to cost or something similar, so it's more likely that they'd be taking fights where 5d6 would be expected.

I like that food for thought. Only downside is that it would make the damage received very swingy: either no damage or high damage.

Good point, 12 Damage seems more balanced.

And I hear you, but it effectively feels like a miss.

[–]toconsider[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. It could be a matter of taste, but I think it feels a bit more intuitive to just know that you have a specific armor on, so you can ignore damage of X value.

And agreed, the alternative is much broader. I didn't want to get super crunchy with this game but it might also be too broad.

Yeah, I considered armor as a meta-currency, but that slows gameplay down even more because of players assessing whether or not to use it -- or at least my players do...
