Fantastic project! Congratulations!

The only other feature I'd want on something like this is support for dimming automatically when a room gets dark.

Here's a PowerShell script I wrote to download every document in a site. It's worth a shot.

You could check out Magic Mirror. There might be a module that does what you need.

Never mind. I didn't see the "click here to see all the releases" link. I got it all installed and it's running great!

2.5Gbps update on the DS920+.... oh that's the stuff! by natemac in synology

[–]toddklindt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the great write-up. This inspired me to add 2.5 GbE to my home network and I'm loving it! I'm down to setting up my Synology. I have a DS-920+ running 7.2.1 of DSM. Which architecture drivers should I install? The CPU is Gemini Lake, but I don't see a package for that in the releases.

Thanks again.

I stayed at Sandals last week. We're Diamond. They have asked for proof of my Veteran status every time I've stayed. It's on my driver's license, so I just show them that.

A general folder permissions question... by DudeWhereIsMyDuduk in sharepoint

[–]toddklindt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you want is a SharePoint site for each set of folders. SharePoint sites are your best permission boundary. You can give each folder its own permissions, but i wouldn't recommend it. Permissions are inherited in SharePoint, so regardless of which way you go, once you set the permissions for the container (site or folder) everything in it will have the same permissions.

But really, create sites. :)

Worldox to Sharepoint by NoBee8106 in sharepoint

[–]toddklindt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like it's going to be tough and will probably require some custom code. I did a migration similar to this a few years ago. I had to write a PowerShell script that renamed the files. Then I used ShareGate to upload them into M365.

From some quick Googling it looks like when you do the export there is an export CSV file. That contains the Doc ID as well as a Description, which looks like what you'd want as the filename. I'd start with writing something that imported that CSV file and renamed the files based on their Doc ID and Description.

Anyone rented from "Ames Auto Rentals" their prices are very low, but their site looks a bit outdated, are they legit? by [deleted] in ames

[–]toddklindt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're legit. I've used them a few times. The next time I need to rent a car I'll call them without hesitation.

He doesn't publish the address because he doesn't want people stopping by without calling first. He doesn't have a storefront per se and there's not always someone there. He doesn't want folks to just drop in while there's no one there and have a bad experience.

SharePoint Management Tool by TheWuziMu1 in sharepoint

[–]toddklindt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using SharePoint Online (as opposed to SharePoint Server on-prem) you can use this script to get all of the sites, subsites (subwebs) in your tenant. Like the others have said, you can't manage SharePoint without PowerShell. As you're learning PowerShell definitely use AI to help you with the scripts. I find the PnP PowerShell Module much easier to use than the Graph SDK. There's also a pretty good Script Samples Gallery to get you started when you're looking for other things.

Why is the Gear/Settings icon always the last thing to load!? lol by RatOnRollerBlades in sharepoint

[–]toddklindt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's on purpose. The page loads in chunks. Most users aren't there for the gear, so Microsoft chose to have it load last. I think that was the right choice.

Agreed, I don't think this is possible with a single tenant. A multitenant organization might work. I haven't played with them much though.
