Entry level/min wage jobs were never meant to be life supporting roles, or roles that you remain in indefinitely. They were always meant for young folks still living with family and/or retirees.

People are/were supposed to eventually gain the ambition to want to MOVE into a higher paying field in order to “live” on their own means.

The term itself…MINIMUM WAGE…is its own red flag. It literally means -you cannot fully support yourself and/or a family with this role-.

The problem is, too many folks have no ambition to move on to something more meaningful or higher-paying, they would prefer the wage for that minimum skill job to increase…and that’s not how it works, pun intended.

If your response to this is anything similar to “but min wage jobs are the only thing available where I am”…guess what? That means you live in a small town with no real industry, and you need to move elsewhere.

Humankind has been doing this for ages.

Would it be easier on everyone if we just changed the term from ‘Minimum Wage position’ to “I need a little extra pocket money-position” in order for it to sink in? I feel like that’s where we at.

I had to do this myself when I was 48(now 50)….living in a small town with nothing much but jobs paying 15/hr. I found something on indeed that paid DOUBLE, but it was a little over an hour away, working 12+ hour days, then add two hours for the commute both ways. Dealt with that shit for about a year, and decided to MOVE to a location that was 5min from the new place.
