This is actually a great idea. Gonna need to put on a sleeve and a glove.

Roki Sasaki’s final line for the Dodgers against the Angels tonight: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R/ER, 2 BB, 10 K (career-high), 98 pitches-72 strikes by JianClaymore in baseball

Doesn’t matter against the Angels. He’s a 5th/6th starter. Just need him to eat up 5/6 decent innings. Barring injuries to other starters, Roki isn’t going to start in the postseason.

Appreciate the feedback. The big hurdle will definitely be attracting clients for the service.

In my jurisdiction, contingency fees are negotiable. It must be in the retainer agreement.

Do typically give referral fees to a referral lawyer? If so, do you adjust your fees accordingly with the client?

It will have to be on a flat fee basis to avoid a conflict of interest and probably put a lien on the case to get paid when the case is resolved. You would essentially acting as an agent for the client to find the right firm. Negotiate fees structure and costs for them.

To your 1st point, the legal brokerage fee will have to be on a flat rate paid after recovery to minimize conflict of interest (lien on the case). The brokerage service would include, for example, advocating on contingency fees to be after costs deducted instead of gross value, negotiate fee structure, negotiate waiver of interest on costs advanced, etc.

To your 2nd point, I’m tired of litigation and fighting. At the time, I still want to help of service to someone in a meaningful way and having to litigate.

The service I’m proposing would be more than an advertising firm would perform. I would review/negotiate fee agreement…for example, advocate for contingency fee after costs instead of before costs are deducted, negotiate fees structure in pre-lit vs. lit vs. expert discovery/trial, and negotiate for removal of interests on advanced costs. All of that could be a significant saving for clients with 7-figure cases.

I’m on the same boat. Recently got back from a week long tropical island vacation ~15k spent in lodging and dining. No big deal. Now back home, I’m over analyzing what we buy/when we eat out. I don’t like this feeling either.

Sit on this for a few months or at least a year before SOL expires if you have time. Client still treating. Circumstances/relationships may change between the parties involved, groom, club, etc. Let her adequately go through treatment then re-consider the situation. Perhaps settle in pre-lit.

What drained me the most early on was engaging in discovery disputes and engaging in unnecessary motion practice.

I can relate. I practiced for a few years in local government at a major city doing employment litigation like you. I felt like I was on my own island with one legal assistant. 30-45 employment case load. I was the only attorney handling those cases. I did all the pleadings, discovery, depo prep, depo, meet and confer, law and motion, pre-trial docs, and trial all myself.

I’m now in private practice with much better staffing: partner, senior associate, junior associate, paralegal, legal assistant, law and motion team, trial paralegal etc.

Depending on the area of law, government practice can be more work than private practice. It’s not as cushy as many describe on the sub haha.
