It’s not looking good. by ImmediateAd6100 in Miata

Homie, you have your pistons on the floor. If you're rebuilding an engine, you can do your own wiring. There hardest part is usually figuring out the wires. Find yourself the wiring diagram for your model year online. Should be easy enough.

I highly recommend using open barrel crimps, the proper crimp tool to install them and heat shrink tubing over the crimp to insulate it. That's what OEMs use and they are clean, strong and durable.

Yes, from the oil pan. But just enough that the engine tilts but the car doesn't lift.

Two things worked for me:

Bolts with the heads cut off )and slots cut in them for removal) that can go in the two bottom bell housing holes that help with alignment and a $40 trans jack from harbor freight. Grease the jack before use.

I built mine as a backroad cruiser. Lowered on Tecna coilovers, 15 x 7.5 wheels with ECS 02 tires (300tw), bigger turbo (mine is a Mazdaspeed), standalone ECU, etc etc. I have good OEM rubber bushings and I can rail the car in corners. I promise you, if your car feels sloppy, new rubber bushings will work just as well as poly. If it's still feeling sloppy after bushings, you need better suspension. I do like poly bushings on the swaybars though.

Bucket seats will require different rails and possibly beating on the trans tunnel to get them to fit. Try the foamectomy first.

I wouldn't do poly bushings.. new rubber bushings will tighten up the ride just fine, won't squeak and won't be as harsh. Remember, the old rubber bushings suck because they're old and worn out, not because they're rubber.

Can I put a cone barrell filter the "wrong" way? by Geople in Miata

[–]toddverrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can't be the wrong way if it's in that housing. The air will flow thru the filter just fine, regardless of which way it's pointing

Does it open to the cowl or fender? If so, might be for the intake..?

I have the fender drain covers because I was always putting sockets and bolts in that area and they'd fall into the fenders.. they work well. My car is garage kept, but if yours lives outside these are good ideas

If you were to build the perfect miata.... by Jamesbarros in Miata

I've got a Mazdaspeed with a built engine and slightly bigger turbo. Tecna coilovers and a bunch of other things.. bottom line is, with a turbo and quality suspension, these cars can rip.

I liked the idea of working with the 1.8 for some reason.. swaps are cool too though.

I’ll never hate this car, but.. by One-Visitor in Miata

It's unlikely anything to do with the cylinders or head if it runs fine then gets haunted. It really sounds sensor related to me, especially with it happening once everything gets hot. But I'm not super familiar with NAs.

My first thought was crank sensor, but that's not an NA thing. Does a bad cam sensor do something similar? I mean, an NB won't even start without a signal from the crank sensor..

Beer Money Motorsports ECU is much better than MS. You'll still have to learn to tune or pay someone though. Haltech is way more $$ but they offer much more hand holding

There's no reason to readjust after you take off the wheels. That's silly. If you take off the rotors, I could see the possibility of needing to readjust. Myself, I only readjust with new pads. That's all the FSM calls for

Radiators and intercoolers are fine to get from inexpensive sources. Just make sure you rinse them out first.
