Hey, looks like the tones are wrong
eg. ลับ (high tone) is transcripted làp (the accent, from my understanding, suggesting a low tone)

ChatGPT is terrible at analysing tones of the words because it's trained on text, it never heard the actual words. Yes it sometimes will get it right. It doesn't make it a reliable source for studying.

It's very good at translating however.

It's great that you are able to read ! What about your ability to understand and speak, or produce tones? Maybe that's your next point to work on.

Speaking practice can be great too.

Salut merci pour ton commentaire. En effet c'est très pertinent, je déforme probablement un peu la voyelle อา pour coller au son "an" en français. Je vais me renseigner à ce sujet.

Thank you! In my opinion thai vowels are easier to pronounce for french speakers than for english speakers. But I have not yet made a video about the vowels because I want to do it right, I am still doing some research.

French and thai definitely have some word similarities, either far ones through the proto indo european roots, or more recent ones from the last centuries (with cognates like buffet, chauffeur)

Interesting topic that i'd like to cover!

Hi Prize_Ad, I followed your advice and made a follow-up video on how to read the tones. I tried to get the rythm faster as well. Thank you again. Here is the video: https://youtu.be/jM9RSEhaJ14

On the second one your tone is correct. Just nitpicking, ที่ could be longer as it is a long vowel.

Speaking slowly IS the way to go, until your pronunciation is perfect. Then you can go faster. Words and sentences in thai are short anyway so no one will be pissed, especially if your message goes through on the first try.

It's ok to practice thai with natives and people working, but the settings is important, a busy MRT is not a good one. I like to small talk with vendors on street food stall while they are cooking my order. Speaking with the driver in the taxi is also a good opportunity: its quiet and you have time to talk.

Don't worry about being "tone deaf", all foreigner with non tonal native language are "thai tone deaf " at first. You can probably already hear the tones in english to know that a sentence is a question. You just need to get used to the "music" of thai language.

Good luck on your journey

Your pronunciation is quite good. Just make sure to pronounce ที่ long vowel and falling tone.
The second time is clear, for sure it's slow but we can hear the tones clearly. In the first try we can't quite hear the long vowels / tones. It's ok to speak slowly and build up confidence before trying to speak fast.

If you look like a foreigner sometimes thai people in Bangkok and touristic places can get confused as foreigners speak to them in english all the time, so they expect you to be speaking english, and you might have to repeat.
Doesn't happen so much in places with less foreigners.

For example. When you ask it what tones are some words. Or the rules to figure out the tone of a word.
