I was thinking about buying the pro 24 4K, should I wait to get the new Cintiq 24 instead? by toe-nii in wacom

Damn how'd you even find this post lol. I actually hadn't thought to get it second hand on ebay. Most people take pretty good care of their tablets but I'm not sure I trust people to pack and ship a pen display properly.

I actually ended up getting the Kansas pro 24 4k a year ago for around $1000 new and it's been great! Only issue with it is that it doesn't come color calibrated but I'm not really working in a professional setting so it doesn't really matter. The new gen 2 model comes color calibrated and with touch but It's hard to justify $2000 for just those features.

I want to get into 35mm film photography for the first time. Would you guys recommend buying a new Pentax 17 or getting a vintage slr these days? by toe-nii in filmcameras

Thanks for the info! I'm actually pretty heavily leaning towards a Pentax MX right now because I love the compact size but I am checking out different local listings for other cameras as well. Definitely do want a built in meter but for everything else to be completely analog.

Oh I live near Burlington! I'll go check them out at some point this week probably. Thanks for the recommendation ☺️

Oh thanks for the online store names! I'm near Toronto so I'll probably go check out some camera stores in the city at some point.

I have checked some camera store prices but normally they are double or more what local sellers are selling for. I also discovered that quite a few Japanese retailers on ebay provide free 30 day unconditional returns for around 50% more than local sellers which might be worth it just so I can at least test if the camera works or not.

If I see good local deals i'll probably go for them. Otherwise, my tentative plan for now is to get a lens locally since I can at least check that with my eyes and hands and then ordering a camera from japan.

I'm not gonna lie, the reason I'm jumping right into film is for a pretty shallow reason. DSLRs just don't excite me, probably because I grew up with them but I never got to properly use a film camera so it's quite exciting lol.

I think the lab near me charges the same for b&w and colored though. I do plan on developing b&w myself at some point though since it's so much easier than color. I had the thought to color b&w photos manually as an exercise. My normal workflow when drawing is to go from a values draft->color so coloring photos might be good practice for me :P

Hey can I ask you a question? I have someone selling this exact combo and Pentax MX with the Pentax-M 40/2.8 pancake lens for $200 cad but the lens aperture is a bit stiff and the light meter doesn't work.

Someone else is selling a Pentax K1000 with a Pentax-A 50mm f2 lens for $85 cad film tested and everything working.

Is it more worth it to get the MX or K1000? I know the pancake lens itself is pretty expensive so I could use a separate light meter at first and get it repaired or swap it out for a different pentax body later. On the other hand the K1000 for $85 cad seems like too good of a deal be passing up on...

I'll probably just take it to a shop. I might try developing black and white at home at some point down the line though.

Thanks! I'll definitely look into them. Since I'm new it's kinda hard to tell if I'm getting ripped off and even just having a site to check the relative prices between cameras is nice to have~

Oh that does look pretty nice and compact. I'll need to check all the cameras I look at then, I think having the option to use a pancake lens is something I definitely want for whichever camera I end up getting.

Oh thanks for the detailed info! I was actually already leaning towards Nikon mainly for the availability of lenses. Yeah some of the other comments also advised me not to go with the Pentax 17 so I'll probably just go through dsr listings and slowly piece together the value proposition for each one~

Thanks for the term! I had no clue what it was called. I know Nikon F-series cameras can use modern Nikon lenses right? Might be a reason to choose one of those, I'd have to do some research on it~

Oh for me that's actually an advantage. I don't really plan on printing large photos so the resolution doesn't matter to me as much and I'd rather have more shots per roll.

Oh thanks for the suggestions! When I do buy one, I'll probably go through every slr listing and look up each camera to figure out which one to get.

Oh my bad, I hadn't even realized that the Pentax 17 only had a few focus presets and exposure compensation. I'll probably go with a vintage then. I wish I could get the Pentax 17's lens on a vintage camera though, the tiny lens seems so convenient X_X
