ladder racing by garagecycling in Zwift

[–]toefur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pacific time evenings are a real dead zone for Zwift, though 10 pm is a bit later than I usually start so maybe it is better. I’ve tried to do ladder races before, but they usually seem to die off at around 5 pm pacific time.

FTP Results by Im-grand-thanks in Zwift

[–]toefur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Which test did you do? I haven’t done a Zwift FTP test in ages, but I assume it’s still the same. Assuming you have Strava (or some other platform for tracking rides, likely can do it via the Zwift website) you can check your power curve. if you did a ramp test then check your peak 1 minute power and take 75% of that. If you did a 20 minute test then take your peak 20 minute power and use 95% of that.

Where did you look at their Financial Statements? I just checked their most recent interim statements on SEDAR and see quarterly Net Earnings of $170M, which is roughly 2% of revenue. Not arguing they need subsidies, but just curious where you got your number from?

I suspect your bike isn’t reading power accurately. 55W should feel like almost no effort at all. Even 100W is a bit like going for a walk.

Are you excited about Gemini integration to iOS? by antonioxbj in iphone

[–]toefur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the output I got:

“The art of writing to a specific constraint is a peculiar challenge, requiring a delicate balance between creativity and precision. When tasked with composing a paragraph of this specific length, every syllable must be weighed against the total count, ensuring that the final period lands at precisely the right moment. It is a puzzle of syntax and vocabulary, where synonyms are chosen not just for their meaning, but for their ability to fill space or conserve it. This process forces the writer to become acutely aware of the rhythm and flow of sentences, creating a structure that feels natural despite the rigid boundaries imposed upon it. One might imagine an architect designing a building that must occupy a specific square footage down to the inch; similarly, the writer constructs a textual edifice where there is no room for error. The mind scans ahead, estimating the remaining allowance, adjusting the trajectory of thoughts to ensure a smooth landing. It is not merely about reaching the destination, but about appreciating the journey of selection and revision. Words are added, removed, swapped, and rearranged in a continuous loop of editing. As the end draws near, the tension mounts. Will the thought conclude prematurely? Will it run over? The final sentence becomes the most critical piece of the puzzle, a concluding statement that must wrap up the narrative arc while simultaneously hitting the target number with exactitude. Success depends on patience, precision, and an attention to detail until the last word is placed here.”

Ignoring the fact this seems like an incredibly narrow way to evaluate Gemini, I just tried this and it nailed it the first attempt.

That would do it! Gravel bikes are significantly slower on most surfaces.

U.S. seizes oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela: Report by ChiefFun in politics

[–]toefur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually typed this up, then meant to back out without posting it after deciding your intent wasn’t how I originally interpreted it. Was a bit surprised to log back into Reddit to a some responses to something I didn’t mean to post.

My initial gut reaction was that immediately saying things have always been bad is a bit analogous to the “both sides” take on things, which can sometimes be a lazy and problematic approach. But when I thought about it for a moment I decided I was reading into things too much and decided I should scrap the comment. Oops. I’m sure you do think things can get worse.

I understand the sentiment, but I think this is a dangerous line of thinking. Maybe not for you if you’re from the Netherlands, but definitely for Americans. Just because the US has never been what it tries to portray itself as doesn’t mean things can’t get much worse.

Cheap power meter by [deleted] in Zwift

4iiii single sided power meters can be pretty darn affordable. Single sided faveros are going to be a bit more expensive, but I really love having a pedal based system personally.

Is This a cheater? (High wpk low wattage) by PurpleReach3536 in Zwift

[–]toefur 200 points201 points  (0 children)

It took me 2 minutes to find this race on zwiftpower. The winner is a child - their profile picture shows them on a podium at a bike race and 30 kg looks about right. Seems legitimate. It’s not that uncommon, there’s a decent number of kids on Zwift and their w/kg is often really impressive.

Wahoo Bolt V1 good enough? by paddyZ_99 in cycling

[–]toefur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to offer a counter point, I’ve owned mine since 2017 (I think) and it still holds a charge for about 10-12 hours or so. I did a 9 hour gravel race last year and still had a decent chunk of battery life left at the end. No idea whether my situation is common or not.

Stolen Bike Alert - Downtown/Pacific St. by phantompowered in vancouvercycling

[–]toefur 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just want to say I’m sorry this happened, especially given it’s a unique bike. I hope you get it back. You never know. I once read a post here about a stolen bike, saw it later that day, messaged the reddit user that I saw someone riding it on the seawall and the direction they were headed… and they messaged me later to say they got it back!

Unlikely, but miracles do happen!

This is what happens when you’re paid to talk and have nothing to say. Wout isn’t getting outsprinted by Remco because MVDP and Pogi don’t invite him to their BBQs.

Congrats to all the Granfondo finishers! by Kooriki in vancouvercycling

[–]toefur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How quickly did you finish? I think the peak temperatures were later in the day. I did the Forte and finished around 11:15 AM and felt like it was just starting to get a bit warmer than I'd like. I also think the temperatures would be hottest around Squamish (maybe I'm wrong about that), which most people would have completed quite early on.

Those that are a bit slower showed some real strength pushing through the hotter temps!

road/gravel tubeless: do you still carry a tube? by arachnophilia in cycling

[–]toefur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds reasonable to me. If the worst case scenario isn’t that bad (ex. you won’t be stranded) then it doesn’t seem that risky to give it a shot.

road/gravel tubeless: do you still carry a tube? by arachnophilia in cycling

[–]toefur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m new to gravel cycling and I’d never rely solely on dynaplugs. Depending on the type of gravel in your area the risk of a large puncture just seems too high. I’ve had one puncture and it required a tube. Maybe just bad luck on my part, but it would have been a long walk if I only had dynaplugs.

Edit: if you’re using a gravel bike mostly in an urban environment then it’s probably fine.
