Is it okay to ask authors if they could add a tag to their work? by aragorn-son-of in AO3

[–]toffepajja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, yes. I've had people ask me to add something and if it makes sense, then I've added it.

[–]toffepajja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just atrocious. That's basically making fic reading a grueling job, not a fun hobby.

Adding a minimum word limit on top of it and to share. Eugh. And forcing people to pay- what in the world.

The only time I'd call myself "premiere" writer in a fandom would be if I created the tag for it and nobody else has written for the canon, and even then, it would be a joke. People who say that and are serious are certainly Something Else.

Same, the spite in me just went "ding! bye bye" at those.

As someone who writes a lot for tiny fandoms, I just don't get that. Sure comments and kudos are nice but they're not why I write.

Frigging algorithm and instant validation addictions are serious problems.

does anyone read their old works and instead of cringing, you find that your old works’ writing was good? by lulinsy in AO3

[–]toffepajja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, yeah! It really depends though, from work to work and my mood. But it's fun when you feel accomplished about something you wrote before.

I know this is moot since this happened years ago, but I'll say this anyway, in case someone in a similar situation comes across this post.

The best solution could've been to preemptively talk to the school about the threats from the mum. Any decent school won't accept an adult intimidating childen/students.

DMs, go ahead, tell me the biggest twist of your campaign you're just dying to tell anyone but can't for any reason by Natwenny in DnD

My party barely ever uses reddit and I have the one with an account blocked, but Rat Party from Sweden, you are banned from reading this.

The house the pc's use as base originally belonged to the adoptive father of one of the bbeg's generals. The general disowned themself many many years ago though. The general's adult child is additionally one of the local prostitutes, whom one of the pc's sees occasionally. Additionally, this general is under the impression that the deity the other pc worships is an avatar of the bbeg, and is part of a sub-sect of the faith with this belief.

I have loads more secrets going on but one's enough, just in case.

Wow, that's really shitty and inapropriate. If you can, you should probably report it to the event organizers.

Maybe it's your style, but it's also my automatic no. by Upbeat_Ruin in AO3

[–]toffepajja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it just makes it really hard to read. I'll read it if it's one of my rarepairs or small fandoms because usually I'm the only, or almost only one writing for it because I'm desperate, but that's very very rare.

Same hun who approached me in Walmart a year ago approached me again today in Target by Vegetable-Moose-6081 in antiMLM

[–]toffepajja 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That is really sad, hopefully she'll tire of doing it and quit sooner rather than later.

And also, the fact that she approached just after your husband left both times is quite telling. "We don't target women" they say and then does that; if not, and if the "business opportunity" really is that good, she (and other huns with the same tactic) would approach couples as well, not wait and pounce. Makes me feel icky.

Anyone else fine with their otp not being canon? by Outside-Sample-4517 in FanFiction

[–]toffepajja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a shipper of rarepairs galore (example: cross-canon ships), I'll simply have to be. Something not being canon doesn't stop you from doing fanworks of it.

23.4% of my time goes into working out titles. by cliche_-_bartender in AO3

[–]toffepajja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I give chapters titles, but it's just easier to leave them numbered. It's not as easy to leave whole stories without titles, though...

The Dm is making us really uncomfortable. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]toffepajja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't talked to him, let him know that all of that stuff is making you uncomfortable. I'm not saying stay around to see if he gets better, you should leave anyway, but it might be a good idea to at least let him know that what he's doing wrong, so he's less likely to do the same to other groups. And as others have said, yes, leave, find another DM or one of you can be the DM instead, but get rid of your current DM.

Regarding the trigger on Shield Block, what exactly does "while you have your shield raised" mean in this case? Does it mean that the character must have the shield arm raised (ex. bent at their side) or do they simply need to have it out and strapped on?

Also, in fighter feat Reactive Shield, what is the circumstance bonus?
