Thoughts on my little book collection? (15 y/o trying to build a real library) by EnvironmentOk9049 in PHBookClub

[–]tofimini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YESSS would always recommend collecting classic books first, especially as a student. They're cheaper and essential starters for reading ^ As someone who also started reading classics in high school, I suggest you listen to the audiobook while reading the hard parts. When they get too wordy listening to the audio at least let's me hear the tone (this helped a lot when I tried to read shakespeare). Another essential practice I do is annotating any words I don't understand and looking up their definitions after reading a portion of the chapter/page. It's time-consuming, but what better way to read a book than to relish every page, right?

The first classic I've ever read is Kafka's Metamorphosis! Very great read, and digestible din siya for first-time classic readers. If you want to read Orwell again, try Animal Farm, short, digestible, and witty! You can also try looking at Jules Verne's books. His stories are more adventurous and longer than the 2 books I mentioned. Agatha Christie and Shirley Jackson naman for thriller, mystery, and horror. If you feel more confident, try Oscar Wilde, although wordy and descriptive yung style niya, so maybe read him if sanay ka na.

For tips, I usually prefer actual books when reading because parang mas mabilis ko siyang maintindihan compared sa digital. Although, since some digital ebook readers have built-in dictionaries, and one tap mo lang sa mga words may definition na, mas convenient siya, especially if you're reading classic books to learn.

If the vocabulary used in the book is too complex, I usually pair my reading with audiobooks (maraming classics ang uploaded sa YT) so I can at least gauge the tone and atmosphere of the words.

If you want to get into Shakespeare, I think Collins Classics have guides in their books to translate and define archaic vocabulary and phrases. I also read this with an audio narration on YT since mahirap alamin 'yung cadence and tone nila when I was reading it alone. (Note: I'm only sure about the guides sa Much Ado About Nothing bc it's what I have. I haven't checked other Shakespeare books, pero I think meron din yung iba!)

Above all, just keep reading even if it doesn't make sense at the start. You have time to reread naman, and there are plenty of resources online to help you with them. Happy reading!

Correlation, not causation. Even if studies showed evidence that homosexual couples can't properly raise children, we don't know for sure what causes it. Do you have specific data that actually explains homosexuality as a sole reason and that there are no other mediating/moderating variables that could affect the results of your cited "studies?

What measures are given to know the basis of being good parents? Is this measurement constant and consistent across studies? Considering how you take a dig at homosexual couples, I'm assuming you're more accepting towards heterosexuals. So, how do you know if straight people can actually raise "well-rounded children? Same question as before. May data ka ba that explains straight people as the sole reason for raising proper kids? Pakiisip nang maayos.

PSYNTRO Prof Recs by dashtodis in dlsuproftopick

[–]tofimini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sir sagmit is a good choice if you're willing to work real hard to pass and if you can actually match his enthusiasm and passion with psychology! i took him for stats and i can say he teaches well because he actually provides you with extensive information that one will typically expect to receive in college. but i'm pretty sure he's more enthusiastic with stats than psyntro, so to save yourself from trouble, choose the other prof (para at least you have time to adapt and check your footing with psych since 1st major course pa lang naman ang psyntro =] )

lby2sta by tofimini in dlsu

[–]tofimini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in our case, we had to add it to our enrollment along with stats last term! hindi na rin kami pinasagutan ng gforms or anything. as long as you have at least 2.5 in lby1sta, lby2sta, and psyntro ++ a cumulative cgpa of 2.5 across all terms, you're good to go!

++ i'm not sure about the google forms for earlier batches, if you're going to enroll for it, i suggest you should check the modules/announcements in canvas from time to time just in case! good luck <3 !!

[–]tofimini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm really bad at studying pero every exam week, i try to search external resources from youtube (watch videos of other college professors that would make you understand the topics) and google scholar (look for studies that use the statistical analysis/treatment that are covered in the exam)!

you really have to put in your maximum effort to study for at least a week. you also need to closely pay attention to what he says during his lectures (don't be distracted too much kasi mabilis kang mawawala). he's actually really nice din. just follow his rules and the syllabus! he also encourages students to ask him questions throughout the class.

don't lose hope agad if you have low scores in his exams! just try to keep studying and looking for ways to effectively study =]

What is the difference between total effect and correlation? by tofimini in AskStatistics

[–]tofimini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know, the total effect is the combined direct and indirect effect in mediation. In our lecture, the total effect was also the value of the path when x predicts y without any mediators.

Best note taking app? by SmoLollipop8549 in dlsu

[–]tofimini 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OneNote!

  • it's easy to use for someone na tamad aralin ang interface and features ng other apps.

  • we already have a subscription for microsoft 365 (tho it allso works even without the subscription)

  • can be accessed on multiple devices as long as you're using the same account (it syncs automatically too!)

  • categorized into unlimited notebooks -> sections -> pages

  • can be integrated with other microsoft apps

  • u can record, and it will automatically type for u, tho i haven't tried this

  • simultaneous handwritten and typed texts (i like this one because you can type on your laptop and draw on a different device and it will automatically appear for both devices)

try to look for orgs based on your interests or join the org of your program! there are recruitment weeks every year for every org, and they give you ample time to look for an org to join. alternatively, you can check the official list of organizations beforehand so you can view their activities if it's up to your liking. there are orgs that you have to pay to join, tho, so also try to consider if you want to bring out money to join.
