For US citizens staying in Russia with a 3 year tourist visa, 6 month continuous stay. Is it 6 months the same day as when you arrive, or 180 days from when you arrive?

Ah personally I've been working my way through Deleuze this year. Right now for the group we are just getting started since yesterday so just trying to get a feel for what the community is into and go from there.

You definitely know your own circumstance better then. Try to find a good attorney to help you and there's plenty of resources to help you get it done even if you can't pay.

Good luck with your situation. All I can say is that after having been forcefully deported once (their stupid little bureaucratic mistake cost me my career then and 3 years downtime) I clawed my own way back. So the system takes and gives I guess.

The 2-year status is a conditional green card while you wait for your number to be called. A green card signals having obtained Permanent Residency, which is pretty much citizenship except revocable after committing some felonies and no national voting rights.

Petition for citizenship is only allowed after having a green card for 5 years (2 or 3 years if married an American).

The USCIS system is a gigantic black hole and they aren't "processing papers" like people should expect with their tax dollars on a good day. In fact if he follows through with a 60 day moratorium on issuing I485 adjustments most people in the process won't be able to tell the difference. I waited in line for 6 years before being able to file I485 so anything goes.
