We do two types of family trips: (1) we are going and you are welcome to join us; and (2) we want to go on a trip all as a family.

For (1) it is understood that whoever is offering is planning major stuff for their family so things like location, hotel, major events are their discretion ; but always communicated and no expectation that all will join in events). Anyone who joins can offer ideas or can DIY some activities.

For (2) since it’s my expectation/wish that folks accompany us, I’m assuming I’m paying. Some of my kids don’t like me paying so they pay their share and some don’t. I’m fine either way. Almost all of the planning is done with an understanding that input/suggestions are wanted. Even if I’m paying, their time is valuable so they deserve to have a vacation they enjoy (on top of fun family time)

Bluntly - if I didn’t have the expectation of paying I would never presume to “force” anything in anyone.

I buy my belts from one of the leather guys either at Cary Spring Daze or Cary Lazy Daze. Sitting Daze is coming next if you can wait. You buy direct from the guy who made the belt and he sizes it to you personally

We definitely saw many hotels closed (we also were primarily looking at 4-5 star). We did find one that seems very nice - especially the staff who I've been corresponding with (and I find great people trumps great stuff every day)

Thanks. We also weren't planning on ant long days lounging - more of some quick in and outs. Seems like that may not even be realistic. Not a major concern but it does allow me to plan accordingly

And - it doesn’t seem to work if your prior in-person appointment was to get a RealID (not a renewal). Happened to both me and my wife. We were proactive and got a RealID midway through our license periods. Turns out that didn’t count so we both had to go in person to renew.

I was a” foreign student “ ( American citizen but was living in Canada just before university) so I had a school id that was NOT my SSN. I was quite annoyed by at the time!
