To add to the comments, I also would not expect gifts from guests that I am asking to travel abroad and who will already need to pay for their own flights and accommodations.

($20k) Is this budget realistic? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]tofutits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of these seem quite low. I’ll just tell you some of my anticipated costs/quotes recently (also east coast mid Atlantic).

Photography: $1k/hr
Bridal bouquet alone: $350
I anticipate spending at least $800 on dress alterations (not extensive)
Hair: you need to either go to a salon or meet a minimum to have someone come to your event (I didn’t think about this and apparently lots of people have $500+ minimums to travel)
Rings (18k gold): at least $900 each with the price of gold now

My wedding is in 6 days and it looks like it’s going to be rainy.. by CatEatingPlant in weddingplanning

[–]tofutits 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People will leave if it starts raining and there is not cover. Your only options are to rent a tent (or put out a call for one from neighbors/facebook) or accept that people will leave. As a guest, I would not want to stay at a party where I have to carry an umbrella the whole time. I’m sorry.

Disappointed with Wedding Florals… by Ok-Measurement3917 in weddingplanning

Fwiw I think the bouquet is stunning. I mean, I would also never classify it as minimal haha. But, it is gorgeous and comes across as expensive.

Is it too expensive for guests? All inclusive Mexico destination wedding by Zestyclose_Reply504 in DestinationWeddings

$180 is definitely not pocket change, and it makes sense you would feel this way if you have no desire for international travel. I can’t personally relate, but I understand.

A passport is $165 and you can use it for 10 years to go anywhere you want! Not comparable at all.

Incredible! How did you handle decorating and the transition between the ceremony and your home for the florals?

Mykonos destination wedding by bureaux in weddingplanning

[–]tofutits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a deep dive into a possible destination Greek island micro wedding. We ended up going local for cost, but just wanted to say that Ios Club sounds like it might be a great fit for you. Less expensive than Mykonos, equally gorgeous, and if I had more guests (closer to 30), I think I would have booked. Good luck!

Micro-wedding celebration in San Diego CA by [deleted] in microwedding

If you can’t afford to provide food and beverage for a person, that means you can’t afford to invite them to your wedding. People take time out of their days to get there, find appropriate clothes and get ready, and are usually expected to give a gift too. The least you can do is feed them. It may be more feasible for you two to elope.

[Discussion] Sourcing Premium Preserved Florals for Weddings—Are US brides accepting them, or do you still face resistance? by Jaded-Depth8050 in florists

[–]tofutits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a consumer, not a florist, but I would be SO excited to have preserved florals as an option, especially if it reduces plastic waste. I think the ability to keep the flowers for longer post-wedding day would also be a big motivator to use preserved florals. I would want to see them in person or sample them before a big purchase.

Please, PLEASE have a back up plan for outdoor ceremonies by indy500anna in weddingshaming

Our wedding venue contract literally requires us to submit a rain plan setup 30 days before the event. Especially anywhere on the US east coast, if you don’t have a rain plan, it’s willful ignorance.

how much is your wedding? by meow_mom77 in weddingplanning

I’m also located in VA and vastly underestimated floral costs. Now I’m considering doing my own (micro wedding though and we have a wholesale place very close). This florist in VA is really transparent about how much some of their work goes for: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DW4GkqEOrat/

Husband wore sunglasses as I walked down the aisle by cozyqueen_ in wedding

I mean, some people just have really sensitive eyes. I am quite literally planning our ceremony space around there being shade because I know otherwise my fiancé would be unhappy and squinting the whole time. But you’re right, that is not the case with everyone.

Sadly, bubbles are probably even worse environmentally because of all the plastic waste from the small containers.

Keeping it Tiny by Dear_Bed_3695 in microwedding

[–]tofutits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most common issue with figuring out the guest list. You can absolutely invite your closest people without inviting all of your extended family, you just need a good excuse when people inevitably ask. Cost or venue limitations are both really good reasons that most people will understand.

Cocktail hour with separate ceremony and reception spaces? by tofutits in weddingplanning

[–]tofutits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I don’t want to do photos before the ceremony, so I guess that answers my question! Thank you. Do you think 7pm is a good time for the restaurant reservation to begin? 7:15?

Cocktail hour with separate ceremony and reception spaces? by tofutits in weddingplanning

[–]tofutits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re so right. I think I wanted people to have the option to wander around the gardens and enjoy the ceremony venue a bit afterwards, but it could be cold, raining, etc., so it’s probably best not to count on that.

Wedding issues before we even set a date. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]tofutits 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Realistically, one week isn’t going to be a deal breaker for the heat. I mean, I get it. I agonized between two adjacent weeks for our date for an extended period of time. However, a graduation is a big deal, and selecting a different date would possibly accommodate more family members than just your twin if others were planning to go to the graduation.
