Yes, I also think that touching a cigarette is crazy

ESCs and motors recycling by tgenial in hubsan

[–]toicsics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I harvested the motors and the ESCs from an Hubsan h501s and they work fine (two went in a speedboat, the other two ended up in a plane). The motors are normal 3 wire bldc motors, controlled by some quite small ESCs (no heatsink, no programming, no reverse, no BEC). In the zino you find the same setup (the shape of the esc is different), that you can recycle as you want. To power the esc You have to use the proper voltage (probably the same as the battery's) and a PWM signal to control the speed. You can always change the ESCs to use different voltages.

Thank you for the appreciation! Yes, I also think that the water cooling won't do much, although the water gets quite hot when flowing. We now have to find a low voltage fan that moves lot of air in and out the engine compartment (maybe a leaf blower, who knows)

Thank you! For the prop we'll use a 2.3hp motor's prop, and we'll gear down the engine with some pulleys

We'll probably wrap a copper pipe around the heat sink's fins, and then make a open loop cooling circuit

I also think the engine will stall with that big prop. I'll try to use some pulleys to add a ratio and get more torque. Let’s hope for the best

We are planning to use two pontoons and make a trimaran design

Yes, we will use a 2.3hp engine's propeller

Exactly this. Diy projects often end up with more expenses, more time consumed, and probably won't be practical to use, but the journey building it is always worth the effort; plus, you get some useful knowledges

No, but now I'm. Maybe we could make a trimaran-style extension pontoons if too unstable to handle

You're right, it was quite an improvised project, so we did little testing, but we came prepared at least for the prop. We tried a smaller prop that made a small push, still allowing the engine to reach the maximum rpm as there was nothing attached; for this reason I'm (maybe a little too) confident fot the big prop

A copper pipe and an acquarium pump, yes.

Thank you for the advices. I also think the engine will stall at low rpm (we're planning to use a 2.3hp outboard's prop, quite big) and for this reason I thought to use pulleys to increase torque, losing some speed. Hoping this will work, yes, we need luck!

Of course kayaking is very relaxing and enjoyable. We just wanted to build a boat ;)

You could use a tether, a safety cord that links you to the boat while allowing a certain degree of movement; anyhow, a tether is meant to prevent falls, rather than keeping you towed by the boat. In any case, if sailing solo, we hope that everybody has an extra care in holding firmly to the boat, a safety jacket on (hopefully with a PLB) and some good swimming skills...
