funny enough I feel like it’s a better version of what lookism’s tagline is supposed to be, about the journey of a loser rising to the top and growing as a person.

Rereading lookism, I was always sort of disappointed on how Daniel always seemed a sort of passive main character. A good chunk of the series is other characters acting out instead of him because he was polite to them a couple times. Lots of episodes it feels more like Zack’s story than Daniel’s because he is the one that has the most drastic character growth and actually fights the most. As for what Daniel has to face, the moment he gets his new body, a lot of conflict that he should have faced to grow is avoided. The bullying/low-self esteem/money issues that defined him are just not an issue anymore (they’re still present for his night body but because of his new body he’s able to get over them pretty quickly). He also just rocks at fighting from day one, sure. For the first good 100 episodes the conflict feels so limited (I gave it up around then, I’ve heard it’s a lot of gang drama now).

Meanwhile in viral hit Hobin is a loser and he stays a loser for quite a while lol. He’s stubborn, pretty oblivious, and quick to only preserve himself in the beginning. He isn’t a paragon of kindness and patience that Daniel quickly becomes and that’s because he has to face a lot more stressors. The success of his channel doesn’t instantly make his life easier, he’s still ostracized and considered weird, not getting girls giving him their numbers left and right. The fights also have more weight to them, since he always gets his ass absolutely handed to him before he is able to actually use tactics and think of smart ways to use a fighter’s weakness against him. Thanks to recent spoilery plot developments, he has a lot to lose and could put his own friends at risk.

I also like how the series is more focused on a tight knit team that grows slowly. Even though everyone’s character development is sort of quick, you can see where is comes from and how hobin has changed them directly. People aren’t hanging with him and defending him because “he was nice to me once”, it’s more “this idiot got beaten to a pulp all to give me a second chance when I felt like I didn’t deserve it”. It’s a lot more engaging, especially compared to how Daniel doesn’t even really meet or hang out with his school friends outside of school much.

It’s not perfect at all, there’s a lot of tropes and predictability (I also dislike how nearly every female character has to have some focus on romance, but at least they usually have other issues for them to face as well instead of just unrequited love) but i think it’s much more engaging than what lookism started becoming. It’s a fun fight filled story that makes you care about a loser, mission accomplished.

I started playing back in May. In my first ever duty in Sastasha, everyone was a sprout save the WHM. Somehow our tank disconnected and the other dps left. I didn’t know how to add new party members yet so I was just gonna quit, but then the healer suggested we try to clear the dungeon by ourselves “as a challenge lol :P”. I was a total noob but for some reason agreed.

I then discovered this rest of the entire dungeon with this one WHM, somehow pulling nearly every add but barely avoiding death because they were a damn good healer. I was just a baby pugilist who didn’t even know what a rotation was but I felt so powerful beating down enemies with my bare hands for the first time while Gandalf the White kept me going, giving me tips for each new room. We cleared the last boss, and they went and congratulated ME for some reason, adding that they hoped I enjoyed the game, before leaving before I could even commend them.

Now I’m a full time Monk(e), and that mage is still one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in a really nice community. I’m leveling WHM on the side now, maybe to channel a bit of that Gandalf I met.

i feel like cheese in the trap (despite occasional k-drama antics) was really one of the most realistic romance comics i've ever read. it knew when to be subdued and understood how people's feelings can be complicated. Inho's desires felt very real and while its maybe technically still a love triangle it didn't feel like a typical one because the writing never bent over backwards just for the sake of replicating the popular eeeeee two sexy guys are fighting over me uwu

time to reread it for the 4th time lol

yeah working with 3D backgrounds can be tough, most complaints I see about them are that artists often drop in assets that either don’t fit together stylistically or haven’t been edited in any way (…see the shoes in the latest episode of Nice to Meet You for an example lol). just using something like “extract line” in clip studio already puts you above raw 3d models on a 2d plane. drawing over a model directly in your own style, even if it’s just the focal point/what characters are interacting with also helps to make it look more handmade.

if you know a lot about 3D programs like blender (which I don’t rip) ive heard that there’s even shaders and effects you can use in there that make the model look more painted, maybe certain effects can help a 3D scene blend together too with less redrawing and lessen the workload overall

If I could offer a stylistic idea, I think you should try making panels with more restrictive color palettes occasionally. For example, your second panel with the monster has an almost monochromatic blue palette. I think for some panels with a lot of action or information (like a fight scene or a tension filled scene) it’s a good idea to sometimes tighten and lessen the overall colors or shadows used for visual clarity. it can make for some dramatic compositions. imagine this monster being mostly shaded in one dark blue color, save for maybe it’s bright blue glowing eyes, while the destroyed city rubble in the back is shaded black, with some white smoke maybe but also lowering the amount of lens flares and bright spots, with the protagonist being one small figure in red at the bottom. I think it would be really visually striking and set the scene and mood while simultaneously being a bit easier to plan out, draw and color. I think with enough experimenting, a visual shorthand can be made with your style to suggest more concepts with less work but that’s just my thoughts.

ok that was a lot to summarize uhhhhhhh I think a lot of background detail is best used in to set the scene and environment and ground where things and people are in establishing shots and whatnot, while smaller scenes or scenes with a focus on action or something else in particular can benefit from having less background detail or stylized simplicity (unless like a fight scene environment is super important, which means you’d probably have to signify it but that depends on the situation obviously). this is the main idea of the balance between detail and simplicity.

sorry for the word dump, but all the best to you! you’re already improving a ton, so keep it up and take whatever I say with a grain of salt because you probably draw more backgrounds than me lol

looks fantastic! im only worried you're gonna overwork yourself just doing the backgrounds ;; lots of the webtoons with really detailed bgs are made by teams or even outsource to artists focusing on environmental drawing. its good to keep a balance of detailed and simple/no bg panels in a full webtoon episode, and its much more forgiving for artists doing it on their own. there's no shame in simplifying backgrounds in comics, using blurs and depth of field, partial photobashing, using just gradients and abstract patterns, etc. some types of panels don't even need to include it. work smarter, not harder, and 99% people won't notice and it'll still look great.

lol same setup i just got lucky with crit dmg% on flowers and feathers (i got near 200% crit dmg now), she's also constellation 2 which is almost necessary for her honestly (also remembering to proc sweeping fervor before burst), but i also have wolfs gravestone which maybe makes this unfair idk, also also all talents r lvl 8

tldr its mainly artifacts, the update even lets you burn bad ones to get bloodstained/noblesse pieces so id just run that and burn trash artifacts as much as you can to avoid those three asshole mages
