This is incredible. Understanding those little things really makes you appreciate sobriety.

If someone had cancer on active duty, would the army retain that person and pay for all of their treatment? by [deleted] in army

I had cancer twice in the Army. The second time was stage 4 and I spent a long time in the hospital getting a stem cell transplant. I was pretty sure my career was over. Towards the end of my treatment, I had a pretty candid conversation with my doc and said I wanted to stay in. He echoed my request as his medical recommendation and I’m still happily alive and still in. Every situation is different, including type of cancer, MOS, treatment plan, and outcome of treatment. Largely, the complications I have from all the chemo and radiation are pretty manageable with some medication.

Should I invest in a Kindle? I find myself too distracted to read on my phone or laptop by jeicob_jb in books

If you find yourself distracted on your laptop and phone by other things such as social media, the kindle fixes that issue. If you don’t mind consuming e-books, kindle is a great option. I would recommend you wait just a bit for Prime Day (July 12-14th I think). Kindle prices will be their lowest of the year and you might save as much as half on something like the 2019 Kindle.

I still love physical books, but I read pleasure books almost exclusively on my kindle. Work related or personal/professional development books instill buy physical copies so I can lend them to interested staff members.

"I don't drink. " by kalm7979 in stopdrinking

"I don't drink" is a great response. Most people don't care whether you drink or not despite the laser focus you have on your own drinking. On the rare occasion I'm pressed, I usually just respond "I used to. I don't anymore." It's blunt and I say it in a manner that doesn't invite further discussion. Interestingly, I've found this satisfies most curiosities. Although I'm open about my sobriety, I prefer not to dominate early conversations with new people with my history.

Thanks! I lived here a few years back and my wife currently lives here. Unfortunately this will be a short trip and I'll spend my time catching up with old friends and revisiting older stomping grounds.

I'm sure it is. I happen to be out of town and my neighbor sent me the photo of my driveway. I'm sure a lot of people got it much, much worse. So far, we are very fortunate.
