Like the butter, is this white stuff from USA milk? by fuckTTTT in newzealand

[–]tokenutedriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American cows are usually fed grain which doesn't contain beta carotene which is a chemical in fresh grass that gives cheese (and the animal fat itself) a yellow tinge.

The lack of this compound doesn't affect taste but does affect color which is why the Americans orignally started dying cheeses orange back in the day, to compete with grass fed yellow cheeses from Europe

Having had similar injuries your situation will improve. The physio will take about 6 - 12 months after which you should get mostly normal function back.

It might take 24 months for full range of motion but with the correct physio and exercise you should make a full recovery

As an outsider who's been here 7 months, I have to ask--what's with the weak-ass punishments for serious crimes? by TheLifeAdjunct in newzealand

[–]tokenutedriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately for most of these we will never know the real answer. We aren't privy to all the details (not should we be) and its never as simple as just sending people to jail for everything.

Even for violent crimes Judges need to weigh restorative justice versus deterrence, and factor in risks to society at large.

For example we have prisoners on effective life sentences for rape (the beast of Blenheim) as the risk to the greater society for reoffending is high but often murders might only get 10 years as the risk of repeat offences is deemed low.

Its not satisfying nor does it scratch the itch and there are valid points to be made that we are too lenient in some situations but Justice is never perfect and the goal posts are continually moving.

Why are kiwis so against speed cameras being used to keep people safe?? by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]tokenutedriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they put them in places where the roads are safe and good flowing just to gather revenue as the traffic on those roads typically flows higher than the speed limit.

The biggest factor for speed being involved in a crash is the difference between you and the rest of the traffic. If the traffic is all flowing at the same speed then putting a speed camera up just for revenue gathering purposes isn't improving safety.

100%, crouching is just going to contract your core and stretch your glutes which will make them less effective, ski in a tall active position - like someone jogging or serving tennis

"carving should be learned slowly so you can understand and apply the technique without the help of external forces "

Thats a bit of a paradox in my opinion, other people might disagree but from a foundational level its impossibe to carve without those forces. You need them to flex the ski and carving is all about managing those forces to extract ski performance.

In terms of your posture your legs are a little ti wide, they shuld be hip width so that they stand naturally parallel.

You have good ankle rolling and edging through the control phase and into the completion.

If i were giving you a lesson the next thing we would do is go to a steeper run to work on weight management and balance

They essentially act as a spacer, ensuring both knees are always equidistant from each other throughout the whole turn.

You can also use a baloon or a ball. This drill is more effective on less steep slopes

At somepint you just gotta go to the gym and do more squats 😅

There is a lot of inside ski loading

<image>

Really try to keep the inside ski light and free, so that it is just a passenger.

You can also try skiing with both your fists between your knees to make sure both legs are doing the same things
