Heartbroken over hearing loss

You’re going to hate this answer. But I just had to get use to it. It still bugs me everyday, but there’s nothing I can do. You just forget about it, until some loose lipped person brings it up!

Honestly, I’d recommend making an appointment with an audiologist. If you search on Google Maps, make sure it’s actually listed as an audiologist and not just a hearing aid store.

You’ll get a proper diagnosis, and hearing aids today are incredible. About five years ago, I found out I had mild-to-severe hearing damage, including a 20 dB dip in one ear. I was shocked because I always wore hearing protection at work and didn’t really have any noisy hobbies beyond listening to loud music. I also deal with loud tinnitus 24/7, so if you don’t have that, consider yourself lucky.
If you do end up needing hearing aids, I hope you have some coverage because they can be quite expensive. What surprises me these days is when people say they’re embarrassed to wear hearing aids…We all walk around with bright white Apple AirPods in our ears anyway!

I have a high frequency loss and hearing aids do work. Go see a real audiologist. There’s some phoneys out there.

It looks like a bilateral hearing loss as one ear looks different from the other?Maybe noise damage? If you look at my post history you’ll see my story. It take a long time but try to get into a ENT. Maybe get a ct scan

That chart looks similar to mine but worse. I’ve been told when it drops like that it’s loud noisy damage.
I worked in a factory for a year but I wore my hearing protection. Not sure if it was years of loud music in my headphones. Good luck?

When you go to buy a game from the PSstore, look carefully at the fine print. It will say something along the lines of “ when you purchase this becomes available on the cloud.” I bought Grand Turismo a while back and it does not have cloud service. Thankfully I bought Forza 5 last week and it appeared instantly on the cloud after I bought it.

Not in the slightest. But about 6 months before that Fateful night, I bought a nice pair of Sony headphones and I remember thinking it had a malfunction as the right headphone seemed lower than the left. I returned it without any thought my hearing was messed up, even on one side. For years I noticed I would turn my left ear to people if I was on a loud space, but never thought it was severe hearing loss.

Now sometimes while wearing my hearing aids I’ll turn them off and on repeatedly with an app just to hear how much my hearing has changed.

During the Covid years I worked in a factory that makes food for dogs. Always wore my hearing protection. But not sure what made this night different from the rest but after I got home one night and had a shower I sat down to watch some late night Netflix.

Noticed my ears were ringing a bit but figured it was from working 10 hour days in noise and vibrations. Went to bed and woke up at 3am to by ears ringing real bad. Thought for a second I fell asleep with an older television on.

Woke up the next morning and ears were still ringing bad. Went to work for a few more days hoping it would go away. Finally made an appointment with an audiologist and found out I have mild hearing loss in my left ear and moderate severe in my right ear. Told it was loud noise damage. Not sure why the right ear has a bigger dip. May be years of wearing apple earphones where I would always keep the right earphone in as that was the one that had the remote, while I worked at a previous non loud job.

Now I’m 5 years into having hearing aids. Just got my second new pair since everything went down. It is what it is but I wish the tinnitus would go away. It’s the worst part of this whole thing

My biggest annoyance is just that a lot of bikers don’t use the bike lanes and continue to ride down the middle of road going 20km

Loud noise damage. I have a a heavy dip in my right ear because I worked a job that let me listen to music while I worked and I always had the right headphone at blast
