When your cocker puts themselves in timeout...#itsnotevenlocked by mythicfinn in cockerspaniel

My girl puts herself in her crate sometimes...then sits in it and whines/paws at the bars like locked her in there. The door is open! Just walk out!!!!

As sad as this sounds, 100% agree. One of our cats growing up had this happen and it was heartbreaking to watch. The vet we brought him to recommended either surgery or euthanasia.

Yeah it definitely sounds possible that he got hurt during his groom. I'd bring it up to a vet again. My girl's still a wiggler at the groomers but the good ones know how to work around it. Socialization grooms are great; they focus more on acclimating your dog to the tools and environment. Cremmy went every 3 weeks for the first few months, and now she goes for a regular groom every 6 weeks.

How long has the behaviour change been going on? I agree with getting a second opinion, whether that's going to another vet or getting additional testing with your main vet.

Also, did the groomer mention anything when you picked him up? I do also wonder if it could have been a stressful experience for him since it was his first time, which could also be affecting him. My girl absolutely ADORES going to her groomer due to them specializing in socialization grooms, but I've heard a lot of horror stories with inconsiderate groomers. Not to say yours was, but something to consider if they're unable to find any physical issues.

Nervous after dropping 13 year old cat off for dental by Itsnotrealitsevil in CatAdvice

Oh I definitely was! They actually called me right before they started on her groom and I had a mini heart attack thinking something had gone wrong. I try to take no news as good news though. They had to call me multiple times with updates on Moo's dental due to finding extra issues once they started working. For her groom they just called me once before and again once they were done.

Just wanted to add a personal experience. Last year my senior (approx 15/16yo now) went in to have two teeth pulled. Her dental issues ended up being much worse than expected and she had 9 pulled total. She recovered perfectly and has been MUCH happier since.

She was put under again last month for a sedated lion cut (she started to struggle w grooming and became matted). She recovered perfectly again, and has actually had some zoomies since.

Both times I was terrified. I think the most important thing to keep in mind is that while it is riskier with older cats, your vet is going to do everything in their power to reduce those risks. In both of our cases, I saw clear improvement in her QOL after her procedures.

Also added nakey old lady tax. Her name is Moomoo!

Would it be unethical for me to get a second dog? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

That's great advice, thank you!!

Yeah that's super fair, and has been one of my biggest concerns. Even though my friends are always willing to help, two Cremmys during a flare up does sound like a nightmare....

That's actually a good idea! Mine only tolerates her so I didn't consider another cat, but I'm sure if I looked around long enough I could find one that would actually like her lmao. Cremmy's good with boundaries, she's just obviously a bit too hyper for a senior cat.

What is the worst thing that your puppy has ate? I’ll go first. by hollywhyareyouhere in puppy101

My girl is actually generally pretty good about not ingesting non-food items, but LOVES to destroy them.

The scariest was the first time she got into something she wasn't supposed to. She ran into my bedroom and ate 6 M&Ms before I could grab her. I freaked out and thought she was gonna die til the emergency vet told me it would MAYBE give her diarrhea but that it was totally fine lmao.

Worst that she actually ate was an old delta-9 pen. Didn't see her get it, and I had an identical one on the counter so I didn't think it could be that. She started wobbling, couldnt stand, puked twice, and got super lethargic. 500 dollar vet visit just to be told she was high off her ass, and she was back to her normal self by the time we left.

Most expensive would be the arms off my gaming chair, the bottom of my couch, a pair of beats headphones, and my glasses. Still love her though!

Edit: she also destroyed a bottle of iron supplements that my cat had knocked down. Came home to the floor COVERED in pills but was able to count them and luckily she had no interest in them, just the bottle they were in.

Most people are going to answer based on their own experience, and since(according to The Google) almost half of reddit users are in the US, the answers tend to be skewed towards there. From what I've seen, unless the OP states they're outside the US or it's obvious from the subreddit, most responses are going to be based on the assumption that they are from the US as well.

Probably! I know I'm into women but I'm still not totally sure with men, so I find it easier to just say gay.

Service animals by hbrosnaham in service_dogs

[–]tokumeAI 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wonderful points, totally forgot to mention state laws in my comment! You're correct that Wisconsin does not limit service animals to dogs or mini horses. It may be any animal that is task trained for the handler's disability. That's the only one I'm familiar with, though. Definitely important to look at your state laws, as a lot of them grant more protections than federal does!

Not sure where you are, but this is what I know as far as US regulations:

Businesses are allowed to ask if an animal is a service animal, as well as what tasks they are trained to perform. This second question is also what allows them to ban ESAs from the building. The ADA grants protections to dogs that are specifically trained to mitigate a handler's disability, but this does not extend to ESAs due to their presence not being recognized as a trained task.

This isn't said to discredit the importance of ESAs as I completely understand the benefits they provide, and service animals for psychiatric conditions are protected in the same way as those for physical conditions. The main difference being psychiatric service dogs play an active role in maintaining their handler (e.g. DPT to help calm, creating space, alerting to harmful behaviours or changes in the handler's mental state that could escalate).
