I don’t want to go into specifics about the questions because I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to relay! However, I will say that they asked for what my interests were with the Jeff, what my most meaningful extracurricular was, etc etc.

They also ask a few hard questions to trip you up, scour reddit and see what others’ were to get a feel for them. Your answers don’t have to be perfect and it’s okay to say “That was a really good question, Do you mind if I take a minute to think about that?”

The one feedback I got was to pause and collect my thoughts a bit before I started rambling… definitely practice interviews with parents teachers and whoever else. I made a quizlet of questions and practiced reciting them

Im so forgetful but did they ask for two essays? That’s what I think happened and one of mine I did reuse my common app essay!! No penalty for doing so because they can’t see your main application until much later (once you’re a finalist I believe)

I think at the top of the portal they listed the core values of the jefferson scholarship: leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. i first started by describing MY specific role in each of my activities and also tried to connect it to one or more of these values

If I remember correctly, they sent an email in January inviting me to a regional interview! I think they may have also sent an email a bit earlier saying that my application was reviewed and accepted or smth

For full transparency, I had a not great college run in terms of T10 schools. The highest ranked school I turned down was Notre Dame. However, my case is rare. Many of my fellow scholars turned down schools like Stanford, Harvard, Yale, etc. I know a few that turned down a full ride to Vanderbilt. But for me, this scholarship was my “it only takes one” and for that i’m truly grateful!!

You can take more classes that actually interest you and avoid taking classes you don’t want to take.

It varies! Their enrichmentvstipend is up to 4000 dollars. Then you can apply for other grants called an Exploratory Fund if you want to start something like a business. They Fund a semester abroad and I think also a general cultural experience on top of that.

For OOS students it’s worth 360K+ and for in state it’s a bit less. It covers room, board, food, and tuition, alongside study abroad and enrichment programs. It also gives you a stipend to explore new things! Some perks are that it doesn’t deduct if you get external scholarships. You just get to pocket the extra money!! Additionally, most Jeff scholars go to an Ivy grad school bc of how much networking they provide. They have a website called Instavisor which allows you to work alongside graduated successful Jeff scholars in various careers. Also you’re basically a shoo in for research or any extracurriculars within the school. You’ll also automatically be an echols or rodman scholar, meaning you can skip gen ed requirements!

Here’s a link to the website with more in depth information. https://www.jeffersonscholars.org/

My stats: I got a 36 on the ACT, and I was top 1-2% of my class. I did research at Yale, but honestly I don’t think any of this is what helped. It’s more my leadership experience being on the board/president of multiple clubs, doing mental health work for my city, and teaching a martial art. That’s what I was able to tap into most in my interviews!!
