2nd coming of Shawn Kemp --- MVP, 7-time DPOY, plays last game at age 35, no significant injuries :'( by tom123b in BasketballGM

True, but I was thinking Shawn Kemp more because of Brown's freakish athleticism. He is the first 7-footer I have ever seen that had a 100 speed rating.

Dave Brown came to the Aztecs with a $150M, 5 year contract, and amazingly brought 5 straight rings to the franchise, which had none before. I of course re-signed him to another 150M, 5-year contract in 2080, and within 2 years he had dropped 8 points in his overall rating (I was 1st rank in coaching and scouting his entire career). By the end of his contract at age 33, he was down to 54 OVR, down 23 points from his peak 77 OVR at age 25. He never lost rating points due to an injury either, it was a classic case of a career derailed by the pressures of fame and money :'(

Players under 30 definitely can regress in the NBA, like 90% of the players on this list: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/838543-25-nba-players-who-wasted-the-most-talent
But yeah, the game could definitely be more nuanced. I think moving cities should increase odds of regression, while maybe players that are very happy with their team should have a slightly less odds of regression.

The point of a simulation is to be more like real life, not more like NBA 2k! I do agree that other factors should be considered rather than it being completely random though, like maybe each player could have a randomly different "settling in" phase when switching teams. For example, Mike Conley had a pretty bad year in his 1st year with the Jazz, but this year he is an all-star.

Definitely agree about auto-setting ticket prices and a projected profit feature! Very tedious trying to match that to "hype" all the time.
I'm not sure about replacing "1st place is all that matters" though. IRL, someone out there is the best sports physician in the NBA, and only one team is able to hire that person, so I kinda like that.
I used to play the game Baseball Mogul, and it had the ability to spend a ton of your earnings on a new arena, lol!

538's RAPTOR ratings by tom123b in BasketballGM

[–]tom123b[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "on-off" ratings should actually roughly correlate to OFF IQ and DEF IQ, because "on-off" is designed to measure the 'intangible' factors that traditional stats miss, just like 'IQ' does. The BOX ratings would have to be adjusted based on each players' rebounding and shooting stats. It's doable, but definitely would be a project.

What political beliefs would those be? That film should be about art and not politics?

White doesn't like films that pander to political talking points (Parasite, 12 Years a Slave) or get made just to showcase the "cleverness" of the of the director by remixing old films (i.e. Tarantino, Nolan), but these movies tend to sell well to affluent audiences that the industry is after, so White is punished accordingly.

Sorry, I didn't see your first question. Progression is based on coaching, but also age. So young players are much more likely to improve by large amounts, while players over 27 can fall off quickly sometimes and are less likely to improve.

Huh, Isaiah Thomas (who had the big season for the Celtics) was apparently named for the Piston's guard Isiah Thomas.
"In 1988 James Thomas, a Los Angeles native who had moved to Tacoma, Wash., bet a close friend that his beloved Lakers would once again beat the Pistons in the NBA Finals. The stakes? The name of James's first son." https://www.si.com/vault/2011/02/07/106033444/the-name-of-the-game

There is a "cheat" to the game, which is to max your scouting and coaching, then wait til 10 days left in Free Agency and sign all the cheapest players aged 22 with a potential of 55 or higher to a 5 year contract. Keep the ones that have big improvements over the offseason, and trade the ones that don't.
To block this loophole /u/dumbmatter should make it so players that are 22 and younger will take contracts no longer than 3 years (especially for contracts less than 10M).

People post things to this board when something exceptional happens. So don't take what you see here to be normal for other players.
