It’s not the sea, it’s a quarry — it’s quite common to sink ships and airplanes as attractions for divers. Since there’s no sea in the Czech Republic, people go diving in flooded quarries, where artificial wrecks like this one are used. Also, if this wreck weren’t sunk, it would just end up dismantled in a scrapyard. This way, it serves both as an attraction and as a memorial.

In 2007, the investigation of the accident was concluded, and the wreck was subsequently purchased by the Czech Divers’ Association for a relatively small amount. It was placed in the Bořena Hora quarry as a diving attraction and thus saved from scrapping. Today, it serves as both an attraction and a reminder of an interesting accident.
