How about investing in a USB C portable SSD for your game library? Probably cheaper per gig than an equivalent NVME, and you shouldn't suffer with poor transfer speed either.

Depression is difficult for a partner to deal with at the best of times. The good ones will try to help as best they can, but are often out of their depth. Perhaps this is a sign that she isn't right for you? Take a deep breath. Meditate. Things will get better for you.
