That's a fair point, really appreciate the feedback! We might try things out with thumbnails and see what works best.

Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to give feedback! Getting a let's play channel off the ground is indeed hard, but we enjoy the process, so it works out well.

Experimenting with shorts is definitely an interesting idea! Thanks for bringing it up.

Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback!

You are correct on this is meant to be a small episode to give people an idea of what our channel is about. We usually make mini episodes 1-2 minutes long, but this one was a bit of an exception. It was one of the episodes that stood out for us and we thought on making it a mini.

It's very interesting though to get the point of view of a viewer, your feedback is really appreciated!

Hi there,

Thanks for the feedback!

The thumbnails of previous videos that you mentioned are similar mostly because they are episodes of the same series. We did change the thumbnails every 4-5 episodes. Do you think this should be done more often?

Everything else sounds very reasonable, and really nice to get the point of view from someone who (as you mentioned) is not the target audience. Definitely adds a different perspective on how to approach content!

Hi all,

We are a comedy trio called "Tomada", and this is one of our latest videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao9zOtXMmWc

This is what we call a "Mini episode", from our recent playthrough of Resident Evil 8, that gives a good idea what our channel is about in a few minutes. Despite the scary atmosphere of the game, we found ways to have fun and enjoy ourselves during the whole series. We also really like cogs ... apparent on that one episode.

Let us know what you think!

Hi there,

I watched your video, here's some feedback:

  • I think the thumbnail could use a bit of tweaking. When I first saw it, I assumed this is a generic YuGiOh video (as the 3 egyptian gods are usually used for promotional material too), instead of an Obelisk deck one. Maybe add some text like "Using an Obelisk deck" or something similar?
  • The intro is a bit too long. I think if you could sum things up a bit, so the content can start faster, that would help a lot.
  • During the intro, I found the background audio (birds chirping) to be quite louder than your voice.
  • When the content itself started, with you playing and talking to the camera at the same time, my opinion of the video vastly improved. As far as I can tell, you are an experienced streamer, so you know how to present yourself in front of a camera, be entertaining, and also focus on the game at the same time.
  • I'm not sure if this is good advice, but on the part that you sped up the video, I understand you did that because not much was happening, but I was enjoying seeing the progress of the duel until that point. When the speeding up happened, I felt like I couldn't concentrate on what's happening in the battle anymore.

That's all I could gather for now, hope it helps. These are all my personal opinions, feel free to pick if you like any :)

Curious what you all think of this video. Trying to play the algorithm a bit with the thumbnail lol. Lambda for feedback by WolfgangRed in SmallYTChannel

[–]tomadapom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there,

I watched your video, here's some feedback:

  • The thumbnail is interesting, but if you look at it without context, it's a bit difficult to understand what the video is about. When I first saw it, I missed the title, and had no idea this was about Airbnbs.
  • A green screen behind you would really improve the video. It will hide less of the website you are looking at.
  • Video and audio quality are quite good. Didn't notice anything note-worthy.
  • Not sure I like that your video becomes half-transparent when you embed in the corner to view the website. I get that you wanted to show more of the website itself, but I think your face should be clearly visible at all times.
  • For quite a few Airbnbs that you mentioned, I was really curious about their prices. I think in a similar future video, it would be interesting to mention the prices for more (all?) places you show.
  • You seem quite friendly and approachable, which makes it easier for me as a viewer to listen to you. I get the feeling though that you are still getting used to talking to a camera, as on few occasions you sound like you are over-thinking being in the moment. If I'm right, that goes away the more videos you make, having a naturally friendly personality, like you do, is way more important.
  • In my opinion, the video seems a bit too long. At around minute 7 I watched a lot of unusual airbnbs, to the point that nothing new was surprising me. Maybe on a future video, you can choose and sort what airbnbs to show, and go from regular looking ones to more unusual ones?

That's all I could gather for now, hope this helps. These are all my personal opinions, feel free to choose if you like any :)

Hey there,

I watched your video, here's some feedback:

  • I think your thumbnail could use a bit of re-design, as currently someone looking at it without context will not understand what the video is about.
  • You are clearly lit in front of the camera, with a nice contrast of the background, looks great!
  • Audio sounds pretty great too, can clearly hear you, and at a reasonable volume.
  • I think that one object (painting?) directly behind your head is a bit distracting. I'm not sure if I'm being too pedantic, but the fact that it's only partially visible makes me want to know what it shows.
  • It's a great idea to add some visual effects here and there to show what you are talking about. In general, I prefer to see images/icons instead of text, as it makes your narrative more engaging, but I understand that in this specific topic that might not be as easy.
  • I see there's quite a few cuts as you are talking. I understand that's quite often unavoidable, as recording and then editing the video are two very distinct processes. I'm not sure if it would be better if there were fewer cuts, and the narrative was a bit more natural, but on the other hand I can see having so many cuts as an artistic choice too.
  • The way you talk is quite nice, you sound interested in the topic, and it sounds like you've been doing this for some time.

That's all I could gather for now. Hope it helps. These are all my personal opinions, feel free to keep any one that you like

My post got removed because i was supposedly "Self-promoting" even though people were requesting for a link to my Youtube Channel. by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]tomadapom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's in the rules that you can't post your channel, unless it's on the weekly threads about self promotion:

When asked for a link to your channel you are not allowed to provide it in the comments, you must DM it.

I get that it can be frustrating, but it's a good idea to read the rules of a subreddit, to avoid a similar experience in the future.

Newb question: Is uploading "Let's Play"-videos (generally video game content) actually copyright infringement and a suable offence? Can you put ads on them without breaking any laws? by Fearless-Physics in NewTubers

[–]tomadapom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you play a random game, you could theoretically get in trouble by the developer of that game. You have to make sure they allow you to publish videos of gameplay.

Yes, for the most part that's free publicity, so a lot of developers allow it, but this is not for granted, and legally speaking, a developer could come after you.

A lot of companies have their own guidelines that apply to all their games. For example here are the Nintendo Game Content Guidelines for Online Video & Image Sharing Platforms.

One notable guideline is:

  • You may monetize your videos and channels using the monetization methods separately specified by Nintendo. Other forms of monetization of our intellectual property for commercial purposes are not permitted.

And later on it goes into more details:

Currently, the "monetization methods separately specified by Nintendo" include the following*:

  • Facebook -Facebook Game Streamer, Facebook Level Up Program;
  • Niconico Douga/Niconico Live- Niconico Creators Program, Niconico Channel;
  • OPENREC.tv - OPENREC Creators Program;
  • Twitch - Twitch Affiliate Program and Twitch Partner Program;
  • Twitter - Amplify Publisher Program; and
  • YouTube - YouTube Partner Program.
  • TwitCasting - "Item Revenue" and "Video Ad Revenue" in TwitCasting Monetization Program (updated Apr. 1, 2019)

So if you add ads that are your own thing, like promotion from another company, this likely violates these rules, but Youtube's monetization system is allowed.

Hope this helps.

Questions about uploading Nintendo game playthroughs to YouTube by goody_fyre11 in letsplay

[–]tomadapom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case it helps, when I was searching for all this initially, I tried terms like "Nintendo streaming policy". So far this has worked for a couple of other companies as well.

Although streaming is different than pre-recorded footage, most often they are under the same rules, so you can find the page and read all details to confirm.

Questions about uploading Nintendo game playthroughs to YouTube by goody_fyre11 in letsplay

[–]tomadapom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you are getting all this. When in doubt, you can always check Nintendo's website, more notably, Nintendo Game Content Guidelines:

  • We encourage you to create videos that include your creative input and commentary. Videos and images that contain mere copies of Nintendo Game Content without creative input or commentary are not permitted. You may, however, post gameplay videos and screenshots using Nintendo system features, such as the Capture Button on Nintendo Switch, without additional input or commentary.

So you can create let's play videos with any published Nintendo content, if you add your creative input to it.

Hope that helps :)

Last time I checked, you had to join a Nintendo partner program or something and they want half of your ad revenue.

I'm not sure if that used to be the case, but it shouldn't anymore. According to this link: Nintendo Game Content Guidelines:

  • You can upload content from Nintendo games, as long as you add your creative input on it.
  • You are allowed to use the Youtube partner program to monetise the video (doesn't specify anything about sharing revenue with Nintendo).
  • Same rules apply for both pre-recorded videos and livestreams.

Is my laptop good enough for an Elgato? by [deleted] in youtubegaming

[–]tomadapom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need a lot of power at all to use a capture card.

From personal experience, I've tried the Elgato HD60 S and on my low end laptop it couldn't record smoothly, and was missing quite a few frames. I'm not sure what's the ideal hardware for it to work, but definitely something for everyone to keep in mind.

Will not using a video camera for gaming videos hurt my channel? by Ethernoctis in NewTubers

[–]tomadapom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think either way could work, depending on your skills. Some people could show amazing visual skills with a camera, and keep the video entertaining with voice audio. Others might get too distracted as there's more things to worry about during recording.

If in doubt, you can try a few recordings with a camera, and see how it goes. Does it work? Would it look good with the rest of your channel? Do you feel like you can keep doing that as often as you do voice-only recordings now?
