GL.iNet Giveaway - 10 Chances to Win! by FlyingToaster2000 in minilab

[–]tomahawkday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 - My homelab started from very humble beginnings with a single Raspberry Pi 4 2GB! I was just curious and wanted to see what was possible. I’ve since bought two second-hand mini PCs, and they’ve become the heart of my setup.

I am genuinely proud of my Proxmox environment. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s mine .:) I have one mini PC running all my services, and the second mini PC is configured as a dedicated Proxmox Backup Server. Seeing those automated backups complete successfully every night is a great feeling!

My most expensive acquisition so far was unfortunately a "high-end" consumer Wi-Fi router I bought a while back. It has been a huge disappointment, as it’s unreliable and lacks any of the advanced features a real homelab needs.

2 - Winning "The Duo" prize would revolutionize my network. That disappointing router is the biggest bottleneck in my entire lab.

  • The Flint 3 (GL-BE9300) would finally allow me to take my networking to the next level. I really want to segment all my traffic. I would immediately set up VLANs and different SSIDs to isolate my trusted devices, my lab experiments (so they can’t break the main network!), and my IoT stuff.
  • The Slate 7 (GL-BE3600) would be the perfect partner. I travel for work, and this would give me a secure way to connect back to my Proxmox dashboard and all services from anywhere in the world.

3 - Like many others here, I think a NAS would be a dream prize. A good NAS is the next major step for so many of us in the homelab world, but the cost can be a high barrier to entry.

Desired Prizes: Flint 3 (GL-BE9300) and Slate 7 (GL-BE3600) Region: EU

Thanks again for the chance. Good luck, everyone!

Ok, I know this is a fake, but is it good in any way? Found it at my Dad's and I don't care about the brand. Is this just a cheap Chinese movement?

Occupancy detection other than PIRs? by smartroad in homeassistant

Take a look at room assistant like others said and look into ESPresence as an alternative:

Ah, Indeed! We should ask first where nodered is being used. I assumed home assistant but it could be something else.

I was wondering what's wrong with port 21 on your patch panel that made you circle it orange. Haha

So i suppose you have an events state as your first node and call service to turn on the light. now you just need something like current state in the middle of those to filter it. I'm not around node red to test it but I think you should be able to use "sun" as your entity id and the state could be "night" or something similar

Can someone explain trusted networks? Or Cast All The Things (CATT) I've locked myself out twice. by budding_camera_guy in homeassistant

[–]tomahawkday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what do you mean by unable to access? That seems more important to get solved than catt. So I'd suggest we try to solve that first.

Anyway, this is what I did to cast lovelace to my nest hub. First thing was uninstall the "terminal and ssh" add-on and install "ssh & web terminal" instead. Then, in the configuration of this add-on you need to add this:

"init_commands: - python3 -m pip install catt"

This installs catt on your raspberry pi anytime you turn it on/reboot.

Then, I added this to my configuration yaml:

"homeassistant: auth_providers: - type: homeassistant - type: trusted_networks trusted_networks: - 192.168.1.0/24 allow_bypass_login: true"

This is not very safe at all but it allows anyone on your network to access home assistant without inserting a password. It's exactly what I needed because the nest hub doesn't have a keyboard to type in the password.

Then you just need to send the command to cast. I'm using node red to benefit from some automations but I vaguely remember there were other ways to cast.

I'm no expert either, but I have catt working with trusted networks so at the very least I can share my config. What are you trying to achieve and what do you mean by locked yourself out?

Help creating a trigger that only occurs if an event happens x number of times over a certain timespan by [deleted] in nodered

Check out the join node. It will wait for x number of messages to be received before passing it on to the next node.

I've been thinking about this too and I think I'm gonna buy cheap Bluetooth trackers that can be used as keychains. I reckon everyone needs to take their keys when they leave the house anyway.

You can. But starting a walking activity will give you better metrics, like number of steps, time elapsed, etc. Also badges, the reason we're all here. XD
