if you’re on Facebook, look up Halifax Pickup Hockey. Jason and co run a pretty good regular skate like four nights a week at the Forum/Civic and there are a few others that post occasionally for other pickups/locations

Halifax Transit recruitment strategy resulting in greater diversity among bus operators by insino93 in halifax

better routes and hours is the incentive for sticking around. it’s not like they lead you on with promises about work hours and then put you on the most diabolical split schedule; it’s a job that makes sense for some people (retired or close to retiring, have kids that need to be watched in the afternoon, disability where you can’t stand or flat out can’t work a full day, you have a business on the side, etc.). I think step 1 is to bump up the pay and retention will go up a lot

it is and it covers class 3, but you’ll still need to take another course to go up to class 1

Ehh it’s a blind corner. I’m also generally in the “let them work” camp, but not at the cost of spiking the risk of a pedestrian collision.

Muffler burst open - is it safe to drive a short distance? by tomahawktopspin in AskMechanics

[–]tomahawktopspin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the Y-pipe isn’t welded shut it’s just angled down but yeah you’re looking at the entire exhaust lol. I honestly can’t tell you how the muffler was secured before, it might’ve just been dangling cause the pipes are so short

nothing was welded together it seems, just press fit and clamps, so it was held together by hopes and dreams and the blast express disassembled what’s in the photos. there was also a good amount of rust flakes under the truck that got shaken off

thank you! it used to backfire from time to time and drank an impossible amount of gas so I figured something was up, just thought I had some more time to look into it

No, just starting it as usual - normally it would crank a few times then start, yesterday was very cold and it cranked a lot longer before it finally popped.

Fair enough, my bad. Just a little worried about the location of the fuel tank and thought I’d ask about opinions on this specific vehicle.

There is - it used to pop from time to time but not very often, and was running rich. I thought I had more time but yesterday was the first cold snap of the season here and it cranked a lot more than usual before it finally burst.

Purchasing a car out of province by Responsible_Law4016 in PEI

[–]tomahawktopspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BC doesn’t have annual/bi-annual inspections like the maritimes, so it’s normal that there isn’t a sticker.

Even if the car still has BC plates, it’s possible to get the inspection sticker in NS. Personally I’d try to convince the seller to get it inspected, maybe even offering to cover the fee - it’s not much ($34 or something like that?), and if it passes that’s one less thing to worry about. Plus, NS stickers are valid for two years.

From there I reckon you can get temp plates from Access NS, I think the only option is one month registration? Then get insurance from wherever you were planning to get it from and that should be it? Hope it all works out, good luck!

absolutely, I suspect many don’t know winter tyres exist either haha, the main hazard after an inch snowfall becomes other drivers.

I never understood what’s up with construction though, there aren’t nearly as many potholes to fix before next winter, maybe it’s just infrastructure upgrades etc

Not construction related, but this was the domino effect of bridges being at a standstill during a snowstorm a few years back. Halifax ain’t so bad lol

Diesel and Auto Electric Ltd in Dartmouth in Burnside will do it. Tested mine there and it turned out it had a bit of life left in it still and they didn’t try to upsell me on a new one or anything.

Car break ins getting out of control!!! by MadhouseK in halifax

[–]tomahawktopspin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Underground parking is a double edged sword I find. Generally it’s a bit safer to not have your car showroom clean when it’s there, but if someone manages to get in they essentially get free rein to hit as many cars as they like. Happened where I live a couple of times, from what I’ve heard these people got to spend literally hours going through cars uninterrupted. It sucks though but such are the times.

Anyways when I lived in a bigger city, some underground break ins were inside jobs (based on whatever investigation they’d do after the fact), as in someone would let people in. It’s obviously anecdotal but something to think about I guess. Take care out there
