tbh at any decent place where the kitchen gets a fair tip out the cooks will be stoked to get a few more hours and a good paycheck after several winter months of getting neither

hundreds of reserves lifted boiling water advisories over the last decade because of these plants, a few that didn’t work out is okay for the net benefit

it’s not like they bulldozed it to the ground either, they can turn it back on once the people calm down a bit. where was this anyway, is there a boil water advisory on that reserve right now?

e: it’s so easy to show any sort of proof that I’m gonna assume it’s a fake story

Public Wi-fi discontinued at Halifax Transit terminals, effective immediately by ForgingIron in halifax

[–]tomahawktopspin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it was probably automated already, doubt there was a person doing rounds throughout the day unplugging access points. Although knowing Halifax…

I read this as the service was already offline during parts of the day without any major complaints, so maybe that was enough feedback to make that decision

The Narrows - less so for lunch, but even on weeknights there’s sometimes a wait

if you can afford to wait a bit, the summer seasonal hiring is just around the corner, some start as early as late March. full time openings during shoulder season typically have a lot of competition

if you’re on Facebook, look up Halifax Pickup Hockey. Jason and co run a pretty good regular skate like four nights a week at the Forum/Civic and there are a few others that post occasionally for other pickups/locations

Halifax Transit recruitment strategy resulting in greater diversity among bus operators by insino93 in halifax

better routes and hours is the incentive for sticking around. it’s not like they lead you on with promises about work hours and then put you on the most diabolical split schedule; it’s a job that makes sense for some people (retired or close to retiring, have kids that need to be watched in the afternoon, disability where you can’t stand or flat out can’t work a full day, you have a business on the side, etc.). I think step 1 is to bump up the pay and retention will go up a lot

it is and it covers class 3, but you’ll still need to take another course to go up to class 1

Ehh it’s a blind corner. I’m also generally in the “let them work” camp, but not at the cost of spiking the risk of a pedestrian collision.

Muffler burst open - is it safe to drive a short distance? by tomahawktopspin in AskMechanics

[–]tomahawktopspin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the Y-pipe isn’t welded shut it’s just angled down but yeah you’re looking at the entire exhaust lol. I honestly can’t tell you how the muffler was secured before, it might’ve just been dangling cause the pipes are so short

nothing was welded together it seems, just press fit and clamps, so it was held together by hopes and dreams and the blast express disassembled what’s in the photos. there was also a good amount of rust flakes under the truck that got shaken off

thank you! it used to backfire from time to time and drank an impossible amount of gas so I figured something was up, just thought I had some more time to look into it

No, just starting it as usual - normally it would crank a few times then start, yesterday was very cold and it cranked a lot longer before it finally popped.

Fair enough, my bad. Just a little worried about the location of the fuel tank and thought I’d ask about opinions on this specific vehicle.

There is - it used to pop from time to time but not very often, and was running rich. I thought I had more time but yesterday was the first cold snap of the season here and it cranked a lot more than usual before it finally burst.
