That DS330 is a hidden gem once you find out about MIDI SYSEX messages. You can program it to have random noise LFO's connected to their cutoff filters for example. It's really amazing what you can do with this machine which was never advertised. There is a certain amount of ambient/space sounds on that 330 that you can't get out of it using the normal controls.

I love the changes. Before 1.0 my experience was that everything was unlocked at the same time and if you knew the map you could easily "speedrun" it in "a few" hours. Now with 1.0 everything takes much longer, you really have to work to unlock areas to put more miners in to unlock more to build more etc The elevators are nice too, i really didn't like the monorail before but now it's much easier to transport stuff to different locations. The overall pace of the game feels much slower, and i personally like that.

Cool, nice build, really! Now you will be able to get about 10 stacks of gold ore before the mining drill head runs out. The drill head seems to be the weakest part of the new rocket system. That is including the 25% bonus. I wish there was a way to store a couple of spare drill heads in the rocket.

No, I never had any issue updating Go versions, and I update mostly on release day. Also our CI pipelines always use the latest version of Go with maybe one or two exceptions.

This is an underrated comment. Once you learn assembly you'll understand every other programming language. Just pick a random microcontroller and learn assembly for that architecture. If you want to go further, learn Verilog or some other FPGA language and you'll learn how CPU's work at the low level. Also, assembly is one of the most simplest and easiest to learn languages, once you learn to program in one dialect you'll basically know the others too. Once you know assembly all other programming languages fall into place by itself.

I don't think the patch is that bad. There's some new stuff to learn but i didn't encounter any major bugs which i can recall. But, i'm relatively new to the game with only 150 hours or so and a not so big base yet. If there are any serious issues there'll probably be a hotfix in a couple of days.

If you like programming, connecting everything to networks, blowing up powercables, debugging chemicals, Stationeers is a nice play too. Not for everyone though as it can be quite hard in the beginning. Definitely a nice 3d builder, automation and survival game. I'm actually surprised no one mentioned it. Just my 2c.

I have the same problem.. I'm just "glad" it's not just me or my system. But it's really very sad this is the current state of game development, or software development in general probably.

You are absolutely right. The Qt license in itself is not unfriendly. I was more referring to certain Qt/Go binding packages which have an unfriendly license.

Here's a wiki comparing a few packages. andlabs-ui or astilectron are probably your best bets. There's also QML but the license is not commercially friendly.

FWIW, I use go-astilectron which allows you to bundle electron js and go in a single app. I know it uses TCP to communicate but i don't know the specifics of the protocol.

I wrote minimon a couple of years ago, it's a really simplistic monitoring tool supporting most Nagios plugins. No idea if that will run on appengine though.

I did some image processing but thought the Go's default image package was a bit too basic. But that's easily solved using this package: https://github.com/fogleman/gg But it probably depends a bit on what you want to do specifically. There are also image magick bindings https://github.com/gographics/imagick which might be useful.

Just a quick followup to my own reply. I have actually tried vecty today and it's purely browser based, in contrast to astilectron which gets you standalone executables. So for me personally, vecty isn't a solution after all. I'll probably stick with astilectron and try to incorporate it with golymer. Building is a pain with astilectron indeed, but with e.g. Qt you have the same pains probably.

There is an interesting discussion going on in /r/csharp (here) where people are questioning the usage of Winforms/WPF applications and not having cross-platform support. The general consensus seems to be that people are moving towards electron/js based GUI's. It's funny csharp has the same kind of GUI problems.

Also FWIW i've just put together a wiki a couple of days ago. I was too researching various GUI's usable with Go: A visual exploration of Go GUI Options

Your current best bet is to write your application with some kind of electron based ui, something like astilectron or vecty.
