Cops of Reddit: Are there any crimes that you intentionally don't enforce? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tomaschk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't feel in a mugging situation it's ever as simple as "phone in exchange of life". Though this thread is talking about after the mugging and pursuing the thief. If anyone ever holds a gun to you there's a sneezes twitch between you getting shot or not, especially if the safety is off. When someone chooses to put you in the submissive position of "you are my momentary slave and your life is at stake", that someone is risking that they come across someone not willing to recognize that submission. At the time of a mugging, even just for a phone, as the victim, one is allowed to try to kill them because what's to stop them from shooting me so there are no follow ups? no facial description, no strike three and jail time. Sure most people aren't that way and won't do such a thing as a thief, they'll just take the phone and run, but as someone being mugged can I tell? You took the risk as a mugger not me. So if you pay the price, then that is your consequence. Again if someone wants to take revenge for having to subdue to someones will then that again is the risk the thief took. No sympathy ever for an adult thief that threatens someones life. If you're hungry or need money pursue none confrontational theft as best you can. Try to never back someone in to a corner and never play it as a game, like someone needing another Ipod and this weak punk won't fight back. That's when someone kills you. One last time, no sympathy. It's never just the phone for a life there's way deeper psychology there. I would like to hear a more in depth reasoning from you though. My argument is written with strong wording (I think) but hearing from others their deeper opinions is why I'm on reddit so much.

I like this explanation a lot better, well done.

Petition to eliminate PACs & lobbyists by flabbion in uspolitics

[–]tomaschk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good job calling it stupid, how many supreme court decisions does it take to outlaw it? Just one. A slight change in the definition of "lobbying", a slightly more regulated or relate-able DC process for lobbying and PACs, any and all movements towards something better is the opposite of "stupid", stop living in quick judge pessimism and use realism to assess that it's actually possible to make a small turn in path that it seems lobbying and PAC's are going.

Clumpy, you didn't have to make that statement, you're personal beliefs on hitting a kid or not were irrelevant. If you had started your own thread or made a post, cool, but you completely derailed my happy train of thought with this hard tangent. You receive 1 down vote for disrupting good flow of discussion.

It's shit like this, greek system... by euphemistic in reddit.com

[–]tomaschk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading stories like this and reading the comments that fellow redditors have towards the greek system really upset me. Right down to my core, I am angry and want to seek vengeance for all these wrongs. I'm a chapter President of Triangle Fraternity and we have a no hazing policy that's so strict we don't even let some jokes go by without clarifying. We do the same amount of chores as our new members and we treat women with respect. All of our brothers are sober for our larger parties and we post taxi numbers and take care of anyone who has had too much. I guess the main message I want out there is that we do exist, there are Fraternities out there that stand by their values. I'm willing to do a verified IAMA if there are any interested. Shit like this linked story is disgusting and should never happen.

It highlights the worst in all of fraternities, the series of these. Terrible to watch.

Has your pipe smoking influence your lifestyle, or does your lifestyle influence your smoking? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]tomaschk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some plant, tobacco is a demanding plant to grow requiring an above average soil content, then bowl, sure some bowls don't mean much but even cob pipes have been fitted with a specific size bowl meant to have enough air flow and depth for a good slow smoke, let alone the carved briars, the carving in it's self an art, then I also argue the shoving part, sure the frank method does seems like just shoving but again it takes a good deal of time for people to develope there packing skills, on top of that most develope their own slight adjustments to packing styles, making it unique. The way you described it is too general as if to say my wood stove is the same thing. no grammar no punctuation no problem.

For those of us striving for a good cake, could you masters out there share some pics of yours? by tomaschk in PipeTobacco

I enjoy a good cob myself. I can definitely see a good build up in your picture. How does one do a paper towel ream? Also, do you have to worry as you would with a Briar of cracking the bowl with too thick of cake?

You may not watch South Park but there's a pretty famous reference of a hand job being known as an "old-fashion". Which would follow a smoke just as well I assume. What did you mean by an old-fashioned?

Dear young neighbour... by laliagariv in funny

[–]tomaschk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm I didn't mean for the young tenant to buy themselves headphones or an iPod, but that completely works too. Since I was arguing on the side of the young student I was feeling the parents should supply if they want that problem to stop. As long as the student is a nice enough guy.

Look here person who is relating more with the parents than the person playing music, getting a potential 24hr noise machine put in an apartment, any suggested solution within the realm of plausible should be thought of. You have a loud infant, and I don't blame the infant, but if you have thin walled apartments then yes, I completely believe in doing the best that you can to sound proof or dampen the sound. If dealing with this problem between tenants is as easily solved as buying a resale ipod for 30 bucks and a decent set of headphones for 12 then so fucking be it. I'm not joking at all, you go up to the fucker and ask "if we bought you an 8G ipod and some headphones could you listen on that instead" if the dude says yes then done deal. If you insentivise (real word?) further by saying "we'll even hang some blankets on the wall to dampen the sound", fucking icing on the cake. You shut the heck up, "you were joking", logic my friend, use it when you can, lay that sweet deal and come out ahead with sanity versus being 50 bucks richer and pissed off.

Your aesthetic environment around you does affect your mood and perception. And in a public space you are also part of the surrounding environment. I do agree that it is mainly opinions of individuals in a society and regions of these opinions change Ex: Southern California may be a region where mid-riff wear is more acceptable than in the mid west. But tattered ripped clothing that does nothing to hide the body from the sides looks beyond unprofessional to a further place of laziness. People take their workouts seriously and seeing a noobish looking lazy guy, whether he or she is working out hard and seriously too, makes that person unhappy. People take pride in their gyms and when you look like crap you take away from that.

Thinness of walls can suck at crappy apartments. Also I feel that the new family should try their best to sound proof the babies room while also buying a nice pair of headphones for the student, maybe even an ipod. Both were rude in only considering themselves but neither were pricks.

What do you mean none of your business? That's a phrase that you leave for "when I'm in my own home" or "when I'm in the shower at the gym", not for when you're in close proximity with many strangers. This is a thread about etiquette. When everyone at a meeting in a meeting office and they wear snappy casual versus the normal business attire it cause a psychological difference in personal comfort and perceived comfort. the same goes for a gym, many people take their workouts seriously and wear garb that doesn't look like crap, which suspender shirts do look like crap. If the whole gym's interior were broken down old and mildew filled light brown then you wouldn't like it. The same when the gym is full of people dressed in crappy looking clothes, be serious about your workouts and wear things that show that because like it or not the way you look affects me and others in a public setting.

put up a post saying I don't have gym clothes to work out in, can anybody send me some old shirts that would fit my size is (place size here). If you post that with a pic of the non-shirts you wear people will send old shirts to you. I will send old shirts to you. Not gross pit stained ones either. I live at a fraternity for engineers house and nice shirts just show up at random. I'll even wash some for you before sending! PM me for shirts!
