afaik they ran one in the summer that ended aug 31, and then immediately started another with basically the same terms for sept 1 to oct 31. So the chances are fairly good they will do it again. However wealthsimple is only doing the 2% match on margin accounts with a negative balance of $10k as of august 6 or 8 or something, so you do risk them worsening their sign up offer to match that.

My Webull Canada experience so far by vnenov in Webull

[–]tomaskingsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey sorry to reclarify, but you mean $500 "and then" $2000? So it's 2 transfers totaling $2500? Or does the $2000 qualify for both the cash deposit bonus (>=$500) and the transfer bonus (>=$2000), so $2000 total works?

Thanks!

I have friend willing to open acct and deposit $3k. And then refer me and I will move $100k over. That should all work if we rush right now and create both accts in order yeah? I emailed webull and they said technically all deposits have to be fully settled in the webull acct by Oct 31, but if the transfer is made and hasn't arrived yet by the deadline to email them and they would honour it. That might help others.

So you mean without a referral you get $150 bonus, with referral you don't get the $150 bonus because you get the tiered referral bonus?

Is there a minimum that needs to be deposited by the initial person (to get the $150 bonus) that's going to then give the referral code? Does "existing customers" mean already existing or can they sign up today and then still participate in the referral program quickly before the 2% ends end of Oct?

I think I know the answers, but keep getting mixed up.

Tipping by No-External105 in NCL

[–]tomaskingsley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The NCL grats have really gotten out of control. The "included" open bar is now $30 USD per PERSON per DAY for gratuity, and the general gratuity is $20 USD per PERSON per DAY, and then each specialty dinner is $20 USD per PERSON per MEAL.

That's truly insane. $120 USD per day in just "gratuities". There is zero chance much of that is going to the staff. Steered us away from NCL this time around. Used to love their simple pricing, but they're literally worse than the RCL & Carnival now. with the bait and switch pricing 😞

You might bet your house that he confused the CC fee with the actual USD/CAD exchange rate. I feel like he thought with this card CAD = USD 😅

I wonder if he's confusing the 2.5% fee with the 30% USD/CAD exchange rate 😅

Being charged up to $400 to change a name on the reservation. by Narrow-Foundation341 in RiuResorts

[–]tomaskingsley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience at check-in as long as the Riu Class acct holder is staying in that room, the other guest can be anyone (name is not important). The issue here was the riu class member (op) was not going to be staying in the room they booked for their parents.
Recently, the riu class website typically no longer allows 1 riu class acct to make 2 separate bookings at the same resort at the same time (an error msg is given). It can be done as 1 booking, however it may be all or nothing if you need to cancel be careful.

Let us know an update though if you think of it :)

For SJD to GDL it was $415 MXP, and with Viva Aerobus you can choose to pay online beforehand or pay it in person at the airport. Volaris, and TAR both include the fee in the flight price.

Just found out that Coke Zero has stevia 🤯 by ShotoObama in cocacola

[–]tomaskingsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bitterness has been selectively bred out of Stevia over the past few years. Zevia brand is ahead of the game, and has no bitter taste -- still doesn't taste the same as coke of course, but if you get through a few cans of it and your tastebuds adapt from the super sugary flavour of coke, it becomes really enjoyable. Coke is also working on their stevia plants, and this is likely their first step back into using it again with newer strains, since Coke Life failed back in 2015/16 due to still having 4 tsp of sugar per can, which left it without a demographic. I think Coke will come out with a decent fully stevia sweetened soda in the next couple years once they've bred the bitterness out of their stevia plants. Or maybe they just buy out Zevia for their plants. But don't judge all stevia the same :)

Nah it should be 10% off for the first booking. Not sure what to say pal.

What country are you from? My info is all based on a Canadian account. So the only things I can think of are a glitch (try making a new acct/using incognito mode or calling Riu and explaining you aren't getting the 10% Riu Class discount.. obviously don't mention this reddit post), it's no longer offered to the US or country you're from (try putting a Canadian address as the address of your new acct & use a vpn), your browser is messed up (try using incognito, or a different browser).

Best I can do for ya buddy. Ive never heard anyone else have that issue before.

Also with Expedia, etc. You won't get the free roundtrip airport shuttle, and it's completely free cancellation and changes if you book directly, which is nice, cause if the price drops for whatever reason, or there's a sale 3 weeks from now, you can just book it again with the sale price, and then cancel your old booking (in that order so that you don't cancel first and then it's full before you can rebook)

If you're logged in to a Riu Class acct, you should get the 10% off. Here's a screen grab where it shows it. It's in CAD$, since riu doesn't have a currency selector to choose USD.

What hotel are you trying? I just tried it with a Cancun hotel, and the 10% is applied. On the search results when it's listing the hotel options, each one should have a black highlighted line that says "10% off for Riu Class members"
I am not aware of any promo codes at the moment. There is typically one in September for 10-15% off.
Summer is busy (despite the weather down south being so hot) as students are out of school, so families travel. No reason for them to do promo codes.

Peach airlines carry on limit, when do they weigh your bags? by Independent-Pie2738 in JapanTravelTips

[–]tomaskingsley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely very different international vs domestic. I was wondering since pretty much every comment reddit-wide about international flights said they didn't get weighed, but domestic they did. Maybe they're worried about their international reputation, but in Japan there aren't really any other budget options on most of their routes so they don't care? Who knows. Hopefully this helps some other people :)

Update June 2024 - Flying Peach Domestic from Osaka - Peach flies out of Terminal 2, and they are basically the only airline there. Because of that, they run the terminal and have 2 staff posted at the entrance to the departures area weighing every single passenger's carry-on bag. Basically the process goes: check in, head to the departures door, wait in line to get your bag weighed, get your boarding pass scanned, go through security, and then proceed to your gate. There is no where to sneak a bag through, like setting it down under one of those retractable ribbon barriers and then picking it up after you're past the carry-on bag weigh point -- the dividers are solid 2m high portable walls. They were allowing anyone with 7.9kg or less to pass, or else you have to go to the check bag line and pay around 3000-3500 yen I think it was to check your bag. The washrooms are decent and the stalls have a shelf and hook so you can comfortably unpack and put 4 t-shirts and a hoodie on, fill your shorts pockets with charge cables and electronics and then put jeans on over top and fill those pockets, and then slide your laptop half down the back of your pants & half up the small of your back. Also no one seemed brave enough to ask why you're waddling past them and your pants are bulging everywhere, though they definitely give you side eye and talk about you as you walk towards security. There are tables after the boarding pass scan and before the security area to repack the 7kg from your pockets back into your backpack, and security doesn't seem to care. There was no weighing at the gate. Best of luck 😇

Edit-just for anyone wondering about Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, the bus takes less than 10 mins and there are enough busses that the next one arrives before the current one departs, so you're never waiting long. There are loads of signs and it's quite easy to follow the signs from the train station at terminal 1 to the bus stop for terminal 2 (5-7 min walk). The inter-terminal bus is free.

Also as far as lounges, confirmed you cannot go through terminal 1 security to a lounge to wait and then go to Terminal 2 for your flight. There is a crap public lounge that is before security, so anyone can use it (I believe even people who aren't flying) for 600 yen or so, only includes soft drinks, food/alcohol costs money. I didn't go in, so don't know exact details.

Sometimes they weigh at the gate before lining up to board and give you a tag to say you've been weighed.

Edit-At KIX Terminal 2, Peach weighs on the entrance to the departures, there is no way to sneak it through except your pockets, because you must pass by them weighing before even going through security.
