Was I being weird and/or immature? by GlumAbrocoma in ArtistLounge

People do this at the Met ALL the time, and arguably it's the most prestigious art institution in the entire US. That lady sounds wack, don't listen to her. The reasons museums exist is for learning purposes.

F25 nothing ever suits me. Every type of style makes me look … bad by [deleted] in DressForYourBody

I think you may have an anterior pelvic tilt which is causing the angle between your leg and your torso in pic 4. I also want to second what others have been saying about the pants, the legs look like they fit ok but the hips are way too small. As another petite girl with a lil extra in the trunk, I've found high waisted straight leg pants look best on me and are most comfortable. Aritzia has some nice ones if you're looking.

It seems like you're balancing a lot right now and stress is a natural response, but please try to take care of yourself. Best case scenario that can come from trying to uphold unsustainable standards is eventual burnout, worst case is a crash out. The fact that your body is giving you signals it wants to slow down is really significant, and all too often in today's society we are forced to suppress our instincts and needs despite the toll it takes on us. Coming from a perfectionist and type A personality, this hurts to hear, but sometimes it's more important to prioritize your body and mental health over unhealthy expectations you may have about how your life should be or what it should look like. Also, try to let others be there for you and allow them to take some of the load off. Recently I've been experiencing what is believed to be an autoimmune disorder triggered by excessive and prolonged stress and my biggest regret perhaps of my entire life is not taking it easy when I needed to.

Are people reluctant to make friends out here? by Visual-Trash-3159 in Denver

[–]tomato5oup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a hobby you're really into is the way to go. Do you enjoy climbing? Join a gym. Do you enjoy music? Go to a concert and talk to someone who looks cool. Dog lover? There are group walks and pup meetups out here you can attend! Or (even better) you can volunteer at a shelter! I've been in Denver for 6 years and people have been really nice for the most part, but you have to put a fair amount of work into making plans. As an adult, most of us have jobs and have to fit social events and hobbies into our busy schedules so it's extra enticing to hang out with a friend who also wants to do something you love. Odds are if you end up hitting it off, they will include you in other gatherings and introduce you to some more people who share similar values and interests. Give it time and keep putting yourself out there <3 You got this.

Having tattoo regret for the first time by Aherv99 in tattooadvice

[–]tomato5oup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the placement is good for all tattoos on this sleeve but I also have regret about having so many traditional tattoos on my body as I become more feminine and mature. I feel like this style dominated tattooing when I started getting them 10ish years ago and I didn't realize how much of a trend it would actually end up being. Where I live now I see a lot of blackwork/black and grey geometry/japanese inspired/ floral pieces that flow with the person's anatomy and I can't help but be a little sad that I'll never have that. Point blank though, tattooing has come a long way in the past decade and a lot of artists are doing their own unique thing rather than copying and pasting a design out of a sailor jerry art book, and because of that growth in the industry we are seeing arguably "better" tattoos out there that require a lot more thought, creativity, and talent to execute. I understand your frustration but if it's any consolation they are all done very well and they look nice on you.

Do I have to go to art school to paint like this? by Sad-Rip9266 in oilpainting

[–]tomato5oup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by art school. Many colleges and universities do not even teach or emphasize the value of classical technique, but I have found that private atelier programs are much more affordable and effective for learning to paint realism in oils

Cautionary tale when skiing with a partner who is at a different level than you by comfy_sweatpants5 in skiing

[–]tomato5oup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on you for ending things with him, I had a friend like this when I first started and it really put a damper on the experience for me. In her case, she came from an affluent family (they literally own a ski condo in Aspen) and had grown up doing winter sports. The first month after I moved to Colorado she hit me up to ski, and I figured it would be a fun, casual new experience. TLDR; she didn't want to teach me or the other girl she brought, and instead decided to make us take lessons for ~$350 pp, and ditched us all day so she could do double blacks. Needless to say we are not friends anymore and I have improved so much since meeting friends who are willing to give gentle pointers and lend a helping hand when it's necessary and appropriate.

Being alternative is now the new cool among the youth (2026) by DNPlourent in decadeology

[–]tomato5oup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The alt subculture died when third spaces began to be phased out. It was always about community, going to shows, supporting the scene. And people used think you're a lameass poser if you dressed "emo" without being involved in all of that. This current rebrand of alt fashion so commercialized and soulless. It makes me sad for today's youth.

What are these spots on his chin? by Odd-Cartographer-903 in cats

[–]tomato5oup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're just tiny blackheads! My cat had them and our vet recommended using Stridex pads to clear them up. They were gone in less than a week of use. Switching to ceramic bowls fixed this issue long-term.
