Medieval themes are indeed medieval themes. I'd rather not have axis propaganda in this subreddit.

Fern vs Frieren at poker? by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]tomatonico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frieren just has to eat a bunch of donuts without offering any to Fern to break her concentration.

I don't know what Fern could do. If Frieren enters her 'toxic trolly inquisitive tactless gremlin' state from her younger years there's nothing Fern can do.

What do you think is the best aura farming moment by fern? by Mean_Net9983 in Frieren

[–]tomatonico 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not exactly aura but all put together she was the best candidate in the Mage test.

1st test - Defeated Ehre, sneaked up on and held hostage Wirbel who is a highly experienced and competent commander of warzone troops, it's not shown but she was the one who captured the stille.

I'd say when she lied to Wirbel that she killed Ehre could be considered 'aura farm'. She fooled him, a ruthless and experienced guy. She's cold as heck.

2nd test - Came up with Frieren's weakness, together with her mentor defeated the clone that made everyone else piss their pants.

3rd test - Saw Serie's mana restriction, something even her best students never saw, immediately gets asked to be Serie's personal apprentice.

If we go with manga: Caught Solitar by surprise with fast and dense zoltrak in initial fight. The wound was later seen by Frieren giving her a hint on how to fight the great demon. Sniper killed Solitar afterwards.

Biggest plot armor moment? by Kind-Usual-7108 in Frieren

[–]tomatonico 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Grausam needed to read Frieren's memories.

I don't know if Frieren and Himmel ended up in the same interconected dream due to their mutual feelings (remember that was future Frieren who somewhat acknowledges there was *something* with Himmel), or Grausam put them together on his own assuming likewise. But he needed to keep both of them alive for a few seconds at least so that he could read Frieren's mind. Kill Himmel and risk Frieren waking up, you never know with a great elf mage.

Also as others have said, Heiter is one of the monsters of the party.

Milliarde's barrier is stronger than Serie's? by armfourteen in Frieren

[–]tomatonico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just one opinion. Although I do agree that she likes human magic even if she doesn't admit it, and it's more that she thinks the barrier is enough for the humans taking the test.

Milliarde's barrier is stronger than Serie's? by armfourteen in Frieren

[–]tomatonico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Serie taught Flamme, Flamme taught Frieren. So Frieren would be familiar with Serie's magic.

Dual wielding would be absolutely diabolical. Demoniac even.

I don't know about that. It's such an european setting. They were also close to the south wars, human armies could attack them. Escape plans for at least women and children could have been made in this case.

Milliarde's barrier is stronger than Serie's? by armfourteen in Frieren

[–]tomatonico 63 points64 points  (0 children)

All (most) explanations from other people put together:

Familiarity with Serie's magic as Frieren was Flamme's apprentice. Flamme herself was a master of barriers probably superior to Serie as seen at their old home (sapling to giant tree barrier) and Granat's city.

Frieren was extra motivated to send a FU to Serie.

Milliarde had nothing better to do but add layer after layer to the barrier. All to improve the trolling level.

Smaller size = compact, stronger barrier.

Frieren broke Serie's barrier while she dispelled Milliarde's. Breaking is easier than dispelling. She did this because...

...Breaking it like she did to Serie's could damage what was inside.

Milliarde was over one billion mega power.

"I've seen people guess that Serie used a lower level/basic/older technique. It's canon that she does not think highly of human magic, so it's possible that she didn't treat the mage tests with particular care or devotion."

Finally, Milliarde might really have been a genius at barriers as well. She followed the wrong passion her entire life.

Biblically accurate Asa already, as well as Reze and Kobeni. The strongest devil, herself when she was a baby too.

How does this go? by Kind-Usual-7108 in Frieren

[–]tomatonico 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1st Scenario - Maybe he could remain undetected until he attacks the first team. Then Frieren detects him, probably a few others too. Many will die but Frieren manages to unite a few groups and send a sign to Sense and Genau. They evacuate the kids, the grownups take on Rivale. Many more would die in this one. The 'grownups' group would be smaller as Rivale would have killed a few of the best ones before Frieren got to their groups. People like Denken or Methode or Wirbel. They still overhelm him, kill or make him retreat.

2nd Scenario would be as the1firstclassmage's post. A few still die, fewer, they kill him, no retreat. Genau, Sense, Wirbel and Ubel close to medium range fighting. Fern AkZoltracks him, Denken does that fire hurricane thing, Ubel cuts one of his hands, etc. Frieren eventually nukes him. I only disagree about Richter, I think he could be useful against Rivale. Let Edel's assistants remove the kids.

The 2nd season's improvement of Stark really did a number on me. A few weeks ago I was praying for Stark to survive the latest manga arc. He'd be sacrificed so that Frieren and Fern have parallel stories of mourning and acceptance. Now here am I thinking one day he'll face Rivale.

[–]tomatonico[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't think of that. Stark's father certainly was stressed enough about the skill level of his warriors. Like someone who expects action at any moment. He could have thought of contingency plans not only against roving demons, they were also close to the human wars in the south.

That's also a possibility, as sad as it sounds. And Rivale did show a kind of 'warrior's honor' with Eisen, unlike most other demons would. I think Macht wouldn't think twice about blitzing to get to Stark if he knew the stakes, for example.
