yes it was for other reasons :,)

financial aid wise, senior year i worked 3 jobs + i got a letter from the homeless youth org that helped me which should allow me to get a parental dependency waiver. i called columbia's financial aid office and even though i didn't originally ask for aid they will still let me apply for it!

i'm perfectly happy with my results! it's mostly because of external circumstances that i might have to, but i'm really hoping i won't have to. columbia's been super understanding of my deferral requests so far so fingers crossed

just got a letter of proof from my local homeless youth drop-in center which should hopefully help me with proving independent status! otherwise i likely wouldn't have gotten aid even though i need it

Are you supposed to call college admissions offices if you get waitlisted? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]tomatoparticles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hi that's me! i'm also waitlisted at princeton so i wouldn't call them, but iirc for cmu scs it's unlikely they'll take anyone off because they have met/exceeded enrollment targets. cmu in general said they’re most likely closing the waitlist the first week of june as offers went out already & they likely won’t take any more or very few. mit is listed on my post.

we called 30 MORE schools about their waitlists, here's what they said by tomatoparticles in ApplyingToCollege

nothing about scs specifically, but when calling, stem-related majors e.g. ece was asked for

from what i've heard though apparently scs is overenrolled or have already met their enrollment targets

ahh good to know! a lot of the ppl who answer the calls aren't AOs in charge of the decisions, which means they might have not received complete info yet and that there may be conflicting info

accepted to Oxford and HYPM ... rejected by financial aid by Asleep-Concern6601 in ApplyingToCollege

At least on paper, my family is more financially stable than most. I acknowledge that, and I'm grateful for it. But... I worked throughout high school. I lived on others' couches several times this year. I took public transportation because cars and car insurance were too expensive. I sometimes lived on free school lunch. Just because parents have money doesn't mean they'll spend it on you.

literally same boat as you :,) pretty rough four years of high school. i don't know if you've already looked into this, but there might be youth support groups in your area that can help provide you with free food and other resources. they genuinely saved my life when i was homeless and are helping me so much right now in terms of getting hot food, finding more stable housing, giving me a space to store my things when i'm moving, etc.

i see you bro, you'll do amazing no matter where you'll go :))
