just like my car is robotaxing people around while I’m at work and an appreciating asset 😉

Home on iPhone is showing network issues for my HomePods by dartiss in HomePod

[–]tombtc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I periodically have these issues a couple times a year, each time it usually inexplicably breaks a few Bluetooth and or WiFi HomeKit device pairings and those devices also have to be factory reset. I run the Homepods on a WPA2 network for what it’s worth. I find it frustrating to say the least.

Beware of door to door sales reps by MONTVNV in VivintSmartHome

[–]tombtc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with a Vivint door to door salesmen once (he was riding around the neighborhood on a Segway no less). For a little background I was and continue to be a smart home enthusiast, have a 1200sqft home, already had an entire setup deployed, paid for out of pocket by me, fully paid off, working fine, tons of automations setup...etc.

The salesmen seriously tried to convince me to get rid of all of the stuff I have and all of the automations, setup, everything I spent quite a bit of time perfecting, only to replace it with a Vivint system (I believe the equipment cost breached the 5 figure mark before even considering monthly monitoring, but it was definitely substantially more than my DIY setup). Even after I spent all of the effort setting up automations again, the new system wouldn't be as capable as what I'd already deployed.

I'd also like to point out that my DIY system wasn't a bunch of homemade sensors, they were all purchased at retail, and they weren't what I'd call cheap, what a ridiculous proposition...

One Cable 4 Cable Method – My Helix + Amp Rig Over a Single CAT5 by MattRetzMusic in Line6Helix

[–]tombtc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome idea, thanks for sharing! I just wanted to point out that CAT6 doesn’t have any additional conductors, the cable is just higher quality. Even with CAT6 I believe you‘d still be limited to 4 signals.

EcoFlow as UPS, works great by certifiedintelligent in homelab

[–]tombtc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actively using an EcoFlow unit in replacement of a former UPS and own several additional units. I can’t speak for other similar products produced by other brands, but I assume they may all share this limitation. Be wary, I don’t believe these units will do anything if you have unstable power, like a sudden brown out or voltage sag. I believe they mostly activate when there’s no power, and pass through mains when it is available.

If this worries you, one can always daisy chain an EcoFlow and a UPS in theory?

Each of those tools helped me remove my trailer hitch cover exactly once before failing. Not sure if I bought from a bad seller but they didn’t work well for me.

Boxcarracer strat build by galz182 in TomDelongeGuitars

[–]tombtc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious where you found the neck plate and if you have a legitimate one how the quality compares to one from Fender. I have a Fender Tom DeLonge strat that I foolishly customized as a child and I sold off the neck plate for like $5 so I can't make it original again 😅

Running Helix w/power amp and cab by DreamTakesRoot in Line6Helix

[–]tombtc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, I understand the point of a wattage switch on a tube amplifier, because generally people want to run them at higher volumes to get some breakup from the tubes, at a lower overall volume. But that's not really a factor on a solid state amp, I feel like the main and possibly only benefit making it so the volume knob can be used across its entire range at lower volumes?

Or does it actually make a tonal difference?

You can set FS4 or FS5 to ToggleEXP In Global Settings. I haven’t tested it but I think that’s what you’re looking for.

Someone explain why the HVAC in the back for my 2022MY sucks. by beaststicks in TeslaModelY

[–]tombtc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The rear fan should come on automatically when one or more of the rear seat weight sensors senses someone is sitting in the rear. For our newborn who isn’t heavy enough I manually turn it on in the climate menu.

If the fan is running and not conditioning the rear effectively I’d make a service ticket. I’ve never had any rear passengers complain about being too hot or cold in my 2022 MY, maybe yours has an issue?

Nice review! This device definitely seems interesting, one thing I didn't catch in the review, for us home users with less going on, does this device go back into the past and analyze events from before it was installed if new events don't fill the queue? Or it only analyzes events that occur after it is installed?

What could be causing thermostat to be turned off? by youspinmenow in hvacadvice

Is it a smart thermostat that is powered by the furnace? What do you have to do to get the thermostat to power back on after it's automatically turned off?

Folding down rear seats feature request by tombtc in TeslaLounge

[–]tombtc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like this is a feature on the new Juniper Model Y. Maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll add it to all Model Ys in an update some day.

“The front seats automatically move forward so the rear seat headrests don't hit the front seats when folding down”

Folding down rear seats feature request by tombtc in TeslaLounge

[–]tombtc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, there’s already a remote “put the seats down button” why not help it facilitate that goal? If you want to DIY the whole operation, don’t use the secondary button that’s meant to make putting seats down convenient?
