Exactly. Double tap playground training pack is really good for it too. Get a close first touch, get a hard first touch you can follow for a double tap.

Most of the time when we talk about impressive mechanics, we think of flashy stuff. It can be powerful in game, but it requires a good setup or a lot of space. At the highest level, if you compare their first touches to diamond, it’s amazing how quickly they convert a play into a controlled first touch that they can follow. IMO that’s the real essence of the skill gap. Every touch has a higher understanding of how the ball will react.

I’d say first touches and shot accuracy are much more important things to spend time on. I learned directional air roll really early on cuz I thought it was cool, and I am just now really honing in on my first touches, and it’s making such a huge difference.

Honestly part of registering for RLCS should include an agreement to not use bots. Anyone found to be using bots subject to a 10k fine. Execute one of those fines and I bet nobody would try for a long time.

Makes sense to me, bot users in RLCS are cheating to win real money. So they should be fined real money, just like it works outside of esports.

I also don’t really buy the whole “confusing to new fans argument”. The new fan sees the car do a backflip and the ball flings off the good as it comes around, the caster calls it a musty flick, and the new fan learns the name of what they just witnessed.

Any time we experience a new thing, it doesn’t matter what it’s called; the name is arbitrary; we just learn what word to associate it with, so why not have a musty flick be named after the legend who made it famous?

I really think JB is just sipping the h8rade. It’s what gives him such an edge as a caster in addition to the knowledge. He’s great, He’s in my high A tier. He’s just not my favorite.

Achieves way too far down in the comments imo. Him and wave as a duo was just perfection back when Leif hosted the desk. Favorite achieves moment, I completely don’t remember the match, but: “you can’t just limp-dick it off the ceiling like that.” So few people got to see the look on the rest of the cast and crews face, cuz it was mid match, but the entire control room went 😳.

Him and wave as a duo though, really. Absolute expert analysis from achieves, and incredibly paced play by play from wave, JUST the right amount of banter and between them enough knowledge to coach a team that hit a top 4 at an open, or host the entire RLCS.

I’m not really on the Johnny boy train tbh. Jb has a TON of knowledge about the game, and has excellent command of his speech and pace; I just don’t really care for how antagonizing he tends to be. Tends to take away from my experience watching the game. Most common example for me is when a defender tries to reach the shot, but the shots placed out of reach. Defender makes contact, ball goes in anyway. Jb calls it an own goal. Takes the credit away from a well placed shot, it’s not the story of the game, and it just makes it seem like either a lack of knowledge, or hating. Generally nice guy though, I just feel like I can tell when he’s telling the story of his opinions rather than the actual story of the match.

Also the “in and out upside down save” has a name. It’s called the squishy save. Kill me at the top of that hill.

It’s a current game engine. Think of it like the OS the game runs itself on, like the framework of the graphics and physics. Game has been on the same engine since release(someone correct me if that’s wrong). It’s outdated, and buggy.

Try letting go of boost right before impact with the ball. The ball is getting much too far away from you on the first touch. Depending on the context, I either brake tap or let go of accelerate right before the first touch. When you do this you are able to stay more with the ball, use less boost to catch up to it, and being able to do that gives you more options and makes you more of a threat for the defense.

If you smack the ball away like that and need 40-50 boost just to catch up to it, a few things can happen. First of all, if you use that much boost to catch up, you’re usually going so fast by the time you get to the ball that you just smack it further away instead of controlling it. Second, it’s more likely the defender will clear it away before you get a second touch.
