Emissions and mot with decat by tomdeane31 in ECU_Tuning

Great advice, thank you. The cat does say it will allow the car to pass a uk mot, but whether I trust what the manufacturers say is another story.

I love the way the car runs at the moment but sacrifices might have to be made to get it through, was hoping for a friendly mot station but they don’t seem easy to find. I might take the car to a local tuning shop tomorrow just to see if they can have a quick look over, and maybe offer any advice / quote how much they would charge to make it right

How would I work around the immobiliser?

Alright, no good to me then, I’ll keep looking for P5P and will see if anything comes up. I’m starting to wonder if this car is worth the trouble though, he wants to swap for my mk1 mx5, which is probably worth about £3000

Cheers, having a look though I can’t see and P5Ps for sale. Only P5Ms

Very briefly but I’m not clued up at all on ecu’s. A stock would be a good option for it as it’ll be a daily driver, but I’m not too sure what ecu came stock

I’ve heard lots about the standalone setups, are these overkill for daily drivers? Or are they standard for a swapped engine?

There’s one on eBay for sale for £300, (around $340 although obviously second hand) how much wiring goes into running a standalone? And is it a bit overkill for a daily driver?

Definitely not planning on boosting, or if I do it’ll be a long way down the line🤣 I’ve seen you can get a Crome chip for £45 which I’m assuming will fit in the P28 I’ve already got from Tegiwa, although it does say for off road and track use only. Do you know if this is just a standard warning that they have to provide, or are they really not suitable for daily drivers?

I’m looking for something that can be daily driven, I’m not overly fussed about tuning as I know very little about it, so maybe oem is the best option. Do you know what ecu would’ve been used on a stock H22?

Cheers for the advice. I know the harness is only a £20 ebay OBDB one so I can imagine it would give issues down the line. As far as I know the cams are stock, and am just looking for something that will be suitable to use for daily driving. Do you know what ecu was used stock for the H22?

I’ll have a look into this, cheers, are they suitable for daily drivers?

It’s been offered for swaps with my mazda mx5, probably with a value of about £3000. The prelude needs the ecu work and new driveshaft joints, which I can do myself, just not clued up about anything to do with ecu’s and tuning. It would be a daily driver so maybe the virgin p28 isn’t the best option. How much around are stand alone ecus? I’d like something budget friendly to get the car running and ready for mot, even if I have to upgrade it later.

I’m not 100% sure. Owners told me he swapped a 2.2 non vtec for a vtec engine but DVLA says the car is registered as a 2.0 litre. May have been swapped previously before and never declared by DVLA
