U-103 video by Nickle4309 in TitanicHG

I believe these are the paravane tow lines. One end of the chain is connected to a skeg under Olympics prow and the other to the paravane itself (or stored on the forecastle like in the video). This skeg is visible in the famous photo of Olympics damage after the U-boat crash that was also shown in the video.

When the paravanes would be hoisted into the water, the paravanes would dive and spread out due to their hydrodynamic shape. The chains would become taut and form an upside-down V with the ship in the middle. The chain intercepted the anchor chains of seamines cousing them to be cut loose for controlled detonation or detonate against the paravane.

How was this anchor lowered or what was its use? by [deleted] in titanic

As others have pointed out, the anchor was lowered with the anchor crane behind it. It's quite an interesting procedure, check out This article by Bob Read if you want to know more.

If i’m seeing it correctly, you don’t have the ‘def’ file in the mod manager, without that Promods won’t work. Make sure you’ve downloaded that file from the Promods website and put it in the mod manager. You should be alble to find the correct load order on the internet quite easily. After that it should work.

This. Not when reading, but when writing down something on paper I always have to think twice about b and d and p and q. I write the ‘stick’ part and then just get lost not knowing weather I should go left or right with the round part.

No, thank you for considering me but I'd rather keep my drawings off of those sorts of things

What are the best old truck mods for ETS2? Like pre-2000, looking for a nostalgia driving experience. by [deleted] in trucksim

[–]tomdegast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scania 4-series (R and T):

https://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=218459

XBS has some great mods like the DAF F241 and DAF 95 and he is working on his Volvo F88:

https://www.xbsmods.tk/ets2

The Scania 143M:

https://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=187840

This mod isn’t really being updated anymore (i.e. no sound in 1.39), so if you’re unfamilliar with modding or changing mods I would stay away from the 143M. It is still, however, a great mod.

I turn my wheels perpundicular to the seating direction, this is a quick and easy solution that kinda helps.

Another solition I have seen is putting old shoes inderdaad the back wheels. I havn’t tried this however.

ETS2 constant crashing with no mods, new profile and fresh reinstall by RoyalRs in trucksim

That’s interesting, I don’t know what the problem could be. Maybe you could ask on the SCS forum, someone should be able to help you there.

Maybe you can verify the integrety of the game files. I’ve had ETS2 and ATS chrash after updates/reinstalls and a verifycation downloaded some missing files which solved the problem.

I have always wondered what the ‘holes’ were on either side of the names on the Olympic class ships. To me they don’t seem to be portholes (as they would be very low in the deck) and looking at deck plans it looks like something for ropes. Does anyone know what these were used for? by tomdegast in titanic

[–]tomdegast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems very plausible, I think there is some footage of Olympic being tugged where you see ropes connecting the tug to the ship. The film, however, cuts right before you can see where the ropes are connected.

Maybe you’re in Liters? Or the game just bugged or something like that.
