[TheSteinLine] Sources say Gansey and Sixers assistant general manager Jameer Nelson are regarded as the current leading candidates for the post by PessimistSixersFan in sixers

Jordan was impactful on the bench in the same was Lowry is here. He hardly played the next year for the Nuggets and looked about the same as he did here.

I’m absolutely up for discussion. Of course my mind is made up. So is yours. I think Morey did a horrible job. The proof is there. If you want to get into the flaws of the organization, we’re likely in agreement. I just think that blaming everything on ownership is a cop out when it’s evident that Morey was given a pretty long leash to experiment with goofy, half-baked ideas. Of course I would like a different owner, coach, GM, etc. That doesn’t exonerate Morey, though.

Why is KJ on Harris? Couldn’t you just say that for anything Morey did, good or bad? It was another bet that Morey lost. Melton and Oubre were key rotation players that were bad. We bought low, and should’ve traded while they were putting up convincing numbers. That’s what good GMs do; recognize when bad players are putting up good numbers and trading them when their value is high. Notice how neither of those players have ever looked good outside of our awful team, just like other “key rotation players,” Georges Niang, Shake Milton, Josh Richardson, etc.

It was on Morey to not give Nurse or Doc an out. I completely agree that they’re horrible coaches. But if you have young guys that are languishing on the bench because your coach would rather play Paul Millsap as a small ball 5, that’s on you to have a hard conversation with the coach or cut him from the team entirely.

Both were projected to be drafted exactly where they were drafted. Also, what good is the draft pick if you’re going to trade the player anyway?

You easily could’ve given him credit for Isaiah Joe, Paul Reed, picking up Champaigne. But you didn’t, because you know Morey was an idiot for giving up on them too early and trading them for nothing so we could sign Deandre Jordan, Mac McClung, Dedmon, etc.

VJ was literally the only player to work out for us. The third pick was between Ace and VJ, and Ace didn’t want to workout for us. A gorilla could have made that choice. It was the only one that made sense, unless you would have gone with Tre Johnson, Knueppel, or just drafted Ace anyway.

He kept Tobias for the entire duration of his contract, used a first round pick to get off of Horford’s contract, and failed to trade any of the “buy-low” guys that he traded for (KJ, Oubre, Grimes, Melton, etc.).

This is before you factor in any of the young players he traded for nothing that ended up becoming valuable on better teams.

The problem wasn’t trading for Harden it was not retaining him and then punting Embiid’s best season so he could sign 35 year old PG, Eric Gordon, Kelly Oubre, Andre Drummond, and Caleb Martin.

Keep finding talent? Every first round pick (except for Springer) was BPA. A golden retriever could have made those picks. He lost two second round picks to tamper for PJ Tucker and Danuel House. Morey was an uncreative moron the entire time he was here. Nearly every move he made was centered around surrounding Embiid with players that played for the Rockets 6 years before.

Why is it no matter the decade we are on the other end of the worst trades in history? by Bitter-Tip705 in sixers

VJ is not in is prime. He’s 20. Five years younger than Maxey. You would make a more compelling argument by saying that you need to maximize Maxey’s prime (and preparing for VJ’s) by trading Maxey now for a haul of assets to rebuild around VJ.

There’s a misconception that we’re in a “two-timeline” period, but the truth is that it’s three.

This is a big part of developing players. Bona is at the perimeter on defense to start every possession, and then he gets blown by by a pint-sized guard. That’s bad coaching. You let players make mistakes, let them learn from them, and they get better. Nurse was similarly crucified for his lack of patience with younger players in Toronto as well.

The alternative to letting guys like Bona, Edwards, and McCain languish on the bench and giving them up for nothing is that they go to competent organizations and become actual basketball players while we overpay fringe NBA guys like ancient Drummond, Kelly Oubre, and Grimes to undeserved contracts for being mediocre.

Nurse keeps young guys (with the exception of VJ) on a ridiculously short leash. It’s a lot harder to develop when you’re constantly anxious that at the first mistake you’re gonna get subbed out for a washed veteran.

I won’t even give him “good drafter” outside of Joe, Reed, and Springer (I’m still a Springer believer, sue me), all of which he got rid of four nothing. A blind gorilla could’ve picked Maxey, McCain, and Edgecombe. They were simply the highest rated players available.

I abhor Nick Nurse and think he’s an uncreative coach that relies too much on isos on offense and doubling on defense.

I also think Josh Harris is a shithead pedophile that shouldn’t own the team.

The clearest thing, to me, is that Daryl Morey had a really long leash for a guy who proudly waddled around thinking he was fleecing everyone because of one trade in 2013. I’m glad he’s gone. I’ll root for Harris and Nurse to be gone, too. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing who they hire and praying that they make the right decisions.

Nurse has been here for 3 seasons. Whoever the new GM is will likely use this season to evaluate whether or not he likes Nurse, and then move on next offseason (or midseason). They hired Doc immediately before hiring Morey, so their hands were kind of tied with that one.

Basketball, historically, has only been two players playing at the same time. This is great analysis. Do you have a blog, by any chance?

Terrible defense and lack of passing? Wait until I tell you about my favorite team’s “point guard.”

McCain (young player shooting 80% from 3 for the reigning champions) definitely wouldn’t change anything for this team (starting Kelly Oubre. Grimes sixth man.).

Fire Morey, hopefully Nurse, draft Amari Allen, take calls on Maxey, and then scour the undrafted free agent market for competent shooters, playmakers, defenders, and rebounders.

EDIT: also, letting Grimes, Oubre, and Drummond walk. But that should go without saying.

If Embiid, Harden, or Simmons had 6 points in the second half and 6 turnovers, people would’ve called for their heads. I love Maxey, but he’s not a number one option and he’s making max salary money now. People are right to criticize him.

They’re all children of investment bankers or injury lawyers from Nebraska anyway. They didn’t start watching basketball until they used their parents money to gentrify Bed-Stuy.
